As promised here are some pics of my intercooler ducting that i just finished to try and lower intake temps when im doing high speed runs.....also pictured is my top mount that will be holding my gt4202....

CAr should be running in about 2 weeks...im waiting on my machinist for my ss compressor v band. Im doing all the ic piping in ss cuz im sick of doing the piping in aluminum for a couple reasons.

How high of a speed are we talking about here? Besides the obvious cooling from the ducting, what is the affect on aerodynamics at "high speeds"?

 

You're going to trim the IC ducting to fit the bumper, right?

It looks like a smart idea, but you're actually funneling less air into a larger space. The shape of the funnel should be from a larger area to a smaller one, if you want to increase air flow. Right now, you're actually restricting a little bit of air flow. Plus, you really don't need the ducting to go past the bumper, as it will have an adverse effect, causing your car's aerodynamics to drop dramatically.

you're own analogy should explain it actually. think about it, what will flow more air? a funnel or a pipe the diameter of the opening of a funnel? ever fill a funnel and wait for it to finish draining? a pipe the same diameter of the opening of that funnel wouldn't get filled would it? it would just go right through the pipe. velocity doesn't necessarily mean more flow, if you're creating a high pressure zone, the air won't want to go in the direction of that area, it wants to go through the easiest path. besides slowing down air would be more beneficial for lesser efficient intercoolers, as it will allow more time for the heat transfer between air and intercooler (like bar and plate intercoolers slow down air with their flat surface). if he get (or make) a front lip it would probably help enough with downforce to counteract any (if any) adverse effects the duct has on downforce. not an aerodynamic expert, so not sure.

a funnel and an air duct are not the same, liquids don't compress when air does, so the air when going from a larger to smaller opening will travel faster. of course you can't go from a 20" x 12" opening to a 3" x 3" opening because you will create too much restriction.

but if the duct on the integra opened outwards at the edges it will "massage" the air into the duct/intercooler bringing in more...

 

I think the box will cause alot of negative issues with high speed runs. It may add alot of lift due to it's inherent design. I'm just recalling those random times in my life when i would be walking and holding an open ended box on a very windy day... very unstable and difficult to keep control.

Or will it create a high pressure area, and therefore deflect the incoming air around the bumper instead? Remember, path of least resistance.
