Wrong o.

The master key is the key that will allow you to do more than just open the door and start the car.....I.E. lock the trunk and open the trunk.

There is such thing as a master key set. It is a set of keys that is every different key they have. I believe Honda uses about 50 different keys. Dealers dont have these keys nor will they sell them to you. Usually they ask for your vin then open a book and get the code for your key. Then they get a machine that works like a hole punch and cut you a key.

yea, there are master keys out there. it doesn't work perfect though, you gotta wiggle it. i've never seen it lock a car, just open & start. the newer hondas, they got a chip in it so it won't turn on the cars engine.

i don't think the dealer has these keys if they exist.

I had to wait 30 minutes one time when i went to get something done at the shop and they locked my keys in the car. They had to search up the vin to find the key so they could make another one. They evne gave me the key after.

i dont really have any constructive comments, i was just wondering why you would need a set of keys that would unlock and start a bunch of hondas? i could only think of one answer, so i thought i would ask.

yes some dealerships have master keys already cut up. I've also heard from a locksmith using old honda keys (pre 90's) on the newer cars work also

If you got the right touch, you can unlock any Honda/Acura lock using an old Honda, Mazda or Toyota key. I've done it...not to steal but for fun.

It just goes to show that the security of our Hondas is not that great!

All cars have them.

on a side note... If i do a USDM h22a4 swap w/ the ECU... legally buying off a salvaged car and all, would a honda dealer and cut a key for it and set it up w/ that particular ECU? would they do it if I legally buy a paricular ECU off a salvaged car (getting the VIN of course)?

There is definetly some sort of Master Keys out there. My buddies 91DX hybrid was stolen last month out of my friends driveway. We found the car two weeks later with no broken glass or broken steering colum. All they took was $200 in stereo equipment luckly. We had some of our friends at honda call somewhere to find out the last time a key was made and it wasn't for over 4 years. There is definetly some other master keys in the wrong hands.
