Default HP ?

What do i need to get 170 hp from a d16y8? I know that stock d16y8 are 130 hp. How can I get at least 40 more hp all motor. I have aem intake and 4-1 dc header. What else do I need? I want 40 more hp to beat gsr, ls vtec, b16, b17 and h22. I have never beaten a dohc vtec motor. I want to make my motor have the same hp as the b series so i can have a fair race.

14:1 compression. (stock is 9:1)

Pistons, rods, valves, retainers, valve seats, cam, cam gear, and about $3000 in other mods to maybe beat a gsr.

N/a d-series are for people trying to break records, or be different.

It will cost you exponentially greater amounts of money to get 150whp naturally aspirated than it would to get 250whp with a turbo.

With a turbo you're likely to get better gas mileage than a fully built sohc D-series.

With the turbo it will be easier to daily drive and if you blow the motor you just replace it with a stock one. Blow your built D and you're out $3000.

The reason you've never beaten the DOHC's is because you have a sohc-d series.

Swap or turbo is about your only bang for buck options.

trying to get a bunch of all motor horsepower out of a d-series is like trying to fill a swimming pool with a squirt gun.

the best way to do it though is look into getting some high compression pistons around 12:1 or 12.5:1...i also heard that the zex cam works really well for d-series motors alot of good feedback about that cam atleast for turbo applications. i'd say all motor isnt very reasonable...it'd much cheaper and easier to turbo it.

Probably the most important thing is the tune. Get the turbo'd car tuned properly by a shop/person that is reputable and knows what the hell they are doing.

All-motor or turbocharged, the tune is what keeps it from coming apart. Might as well choose the one that's going to make 220whp rather than 165whp.
