Default d16y8 into 89 civic si?

i have been searching and searching for info.

i have a 89 civic hatch si and i have a 98 civic ex motor with everything needed to do the swap, except for hydro tranny conversion(do i need that)

i was wondering what kinds of codes will i encounter or none at all?

your tranny from the 89 Si should work. or get a ZC tranny if you don't want to seperate your A6.

wiring is not my thing though. i see a lot of wiring write ups for SOHC V-TEC's in 4th gens.

i believe the si tranny is the better gearing. you would wanna use that then do a hydro.cable convert anyway. as far as wireing it into the car you will need to convert down to obd1 wich will require a jumper harness as far as everything else goes its pretty much plug and play minus a few minor things

check it out bro i did this swap last year in my ef hatch. i suggest u use ur si tranny. if u do use the si cable tranny u will have to use the 89 clutch from ur old motor because the ek clutch too many teeth on it. u will have to use the 89 clutch and the 98 pressure plate because the 89 pressure plate will not fit. if u decide to use a P28 ecu then u will have to get a jumper harness. u can also use ur si computer for the swap but u will have to use ur dizzy on the y8 and keep ur resistor box because u r going to need that too; also u will need to get a v-tech controller to get ur v-tech working. other than that ur good to go. on my car the only codes i got is 5 (mapsensor) and 9 (no. 1 selenoid) the only reason i got 9 is because i got a dizzy from the junkyard and somethings probably wrong with it.

-convert to OBD1 (run a chipped P28 or just run the base program)
-you'll need and OBD0-1 ECU adaptor (boomslang.us) $100
-OBD0-1 Distributor adaptor (hondapartshero.com or whoever) $25
-VTEC wiring subharness (hondapartshero.com or whoever) $20
-4 wire O2 wiring (hondapartshero.com or whoever) $20
-you'll need to extend the wiring for the fan switch from the back of the block to the thermostat housing (FREE)
-you'll need to run the IAT into your intake piping (FREE)
-reuse your injectors (FREE)
-either swap over your alternator to the Y8 or swap plugs (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/fobtions/alt.jpg) (FREE)
-swap over engine mount on crank pulley side from your A6 to the Y8 (the mount that bolts to the block)
-reuse your transmission, flywheel, clutch
-reuse your axles
-if you use the P28 you can sell your knock sensor off the Y8 for at least 50 dollars

if i am using the 98 ex harness i wouldnt have to do the rewiring of anything right? just use the p28 ecu with a 0bd1 ecu jumper. thats it right for wiring? just to be sure?

you can't use the ex harness, you can use plugs off of it to wire up stuff, just use your A6 harness and add the plugs

Step 1: Swap the long block into your car, if your EX motor came with a 5spd intake manifold use that as well. The auto won't work unless you drill out and use a 5spd IACV
Step2: Use all your existing wiring, injectors, distributor and alternator. It all bolts up. GET THE CAR RUNNING.
Step3: Decide whether you want to keep it as it is (OBD0) and run a Vtec controller. OR switch to a P28 (OBDI), get the conversion harness and run a 4-wire O2.

yes, you just wont have vtec. this way you can get the car running and stuff, then fiddle with vtec and wiring changes. This way if something goes wrong, you have a basepoint to startfrom that you know worked, instead of having every single thing different at startup. hopefully you understand what i mean.
