June NASA Midwest, OH/IN Events at Grattan & MAM
Putnam this past weekend was hella fun. Total of more than 200 cars there (!!) and the weather was perfect.
For OH/IN region, Grattan in MI is up next on June 9 - 10 weekend.
It includes HPDE, Time Trial and Racing. Registration is open here:

I've never been to Grattan before so there're some studying to do before the event. Found this video on youtube that should help me learn the track:

Midwest region is having their June event at Mid-America Motorplex on June 30 - July 1 weekend. It's further out west right by the NE and IA border. I've been there once for the ITR Expo back in 2005. Very nice track and facility. Again, it includes HPDE, Time Trial and Racing. Registration is open here:

These are the videos from Budman. I think it's before he turned it into a full race car:

Same rule applies that you may be able to register at the track depending on availability. But they will charge you a $50 additional fee.
And lastly, if your car is not ready, but you have the free time, their volunteer program is still around. Take advantage of it and earn some free track time:

This past event at Putnam, they had more than 40 volunteers, which helped the event run so smoothly even with such large car count.

Great video of Grattan, I was looking around yesterday and found it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FIeGT7TSsU
^^ Kevin Ruck's Integra chasing Colin Botha's CRX (Rest In Peace)
I am guessing these guys know the fast way around for a FWD Honda.
p.s. all the COOL people are ditching MAM on the schedule and going to Hyperfest at Summit the weekend before. Sorry Dave.

Grattan is a very fun and very challenging track. During practice, try to find "markings" that you can refer to for turn-in or braking. The elevation changes make almost every turn blind, so finding the correct turn-in points is critical.
Have fun!
Brian.

I love that track, i have a track day out there in july. I think i'll head out for that weekend though, and practice my photography. Anyone know if you can get into the pit area as a spectator? Hopefully it's a good turnout, very challenging track to run.

you're in for a treat; it's fun. my first time there i had the misfortune of running bald street tires in the rain, which made it a bit too exciting, but it's cool once you have it memorized and get your rhythm.

p.s. what "isn't" a horsepower track?

Haha, good point.
I just look at MAM as a very simple track with a lot of room to stretch legs.
Case in point: Last summer Chuck Hemmingson finished second to a Pontiac GTO in T2. Chuck went on to win Runoffs, and the goat finished just outside the top ten I think. I mean you could SEE the GTO pulling away from Chuck, and even though Chuck would catch back up in the corners, the goat would just pull back away. It was fun to watch, the GTO was basically sideways through every turn.

Sweet.
I think I gained a half second watching Ruck's Grattan videos last night. I think I have some more speed to gain in the bowl, that turn is fast.

-Chris, couch racing, never been to Grattan..

Only 0.5 sec? That's weak. You need to watch harder.
Hey Chris you remember Matt Jensen (black Evo instructor at Expo 6)? He will be there in TTS. He will camp at the track and hold a spot for me/us.

Yeah, "Dropspeed", right? I think I ran into him at Mid-O. Or maybe Putnam. I don't remember. Met him at Expo5.
