GReddy TiC exhaust review / first impressons
I had the privilege to be a test vehicle for GReddy’s prototype TiC exhaust back in December. I just got the actual TiC yesterday, and I must say I can always rely on GReddy to deliver clean, throaty-sound catback systems. I wanna thank Chris from GReddy for helping me throughout this whole time.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
With Silencer: I could tell the difference when the car starts up. From around 3k rpms and up, the exhaust quiets down a lot, which is really good for the freeways. It seems that from around idle to 2,500rpms is where it gets the loudest. That means that going from a stop, it gets the loudest when you first accelerate.
The VTEC engagement on my GSR (no ricer flybys) is also amplified, most notably on 4th gear on the freeway. I was suuuuper happy with the difference. On lower gears, it isn’t as distinct.
With the silencer on, it is definitely below the 93 db (correct me if I’m wrong) noise limit. If I was to compare it with anything of my knowledge, I’d have to say it is as loud as the Apexi World Sport exhaust on my friend’s BB6.
Without Silencer: it gets A LOT louder! Gawd dayam it is pretty loud. Maybe it’s because I’ve never had an exhaust on my car before, but it seriously hurts my ears. Just like when the silencer is on, it gets really loud when you first accelerate from a stop. Accelerating in ANY gear around the 2-4k rpm range will definitely catch some attention. I try to shift fast to 4th gear, where at around 3-4k rpms, it gets a lot quieter if I keep it light on the throttle.
This may be a good way for me to save gas, since in order to reduce the noise, I’d have to keep a steady pace on the throttle position. The exhaust noise is very sensitive to any pressure added onto the throttle.
Driving in SoCal traffic this morning, it was a little on the unbearable side. It’d be a little more bearable if I was to only encounter 65mph+ traffic, but that’s impossible. This is the type of exhaust that, with no silencer, sets off car alarms, will have your passengers/girlfriends complaining, etc.
If I was to compare it with anything, I’d say it’s probably around the Apexi N1 catback. My friend has it on his 240sx, but I haven’t ridden in it for a long time. Its also like two JL W6v2 subs bumping in your car very very loudly. The echo-vibration of the subs is almost equivalent to what you hear with the exhaust. I wouldn’t say it obeys the 93 db requirement. I’ve ridden motorcycles, and I feel like I would need ear plugs for this too, since its almost as loud as if I was to hear wind noise through my helmet.
Overall I’m really pleased with this exhaust.
The exhaust tone is clean as always! As for me, I’ll opt to keep the silencer on, and take it off when I go to the track or something. This isn’t the type of exhaust that you would roll around Hot Import Nights in (with the silencer off of course). You’re just asking for a ticket. I want to thank GReddy again for giving me the opportunity to be their test vehicle w000t!!!

Here’s the description from GReddy’s website:

GReddy Racing - Ti-C
GReddy Racing Ti-C Cat-back Exhausts combine the design, looks and flow of our Full Racing Titanium systems with the durability, deep sound, value and large application list of our other Stainless Steel street systems. This fusion of aggressive styling and practical construction, makes this the logical choice for both Race and Street Enthusiasts. The systems are comprised of a Titanium heat-treated tip, polished stainless steel muffler, unpolished stainless steel piping. It improves high and mid-range performance while still allowing for suitable sound levels when used with the included tuned Tri-mounted Silencer*. *Most applications below 92db, with all under 94db. The large list of applications include 80mm piping for Turbo applications and 50-60-70mm for Normally Aspirated vehicles. (usually 60mm)

sounds like my review on the apexi n1 catback system with and without the silencer. From the looks of the under-car shots...it looks like the piping hangs down pretty low....and your car isn't slammed. Do you mind taking a pic of what they did with the resonator?
I've had problems with greddy cat back systems in the past...especially around the resonator.

Yes it is! Just like the Evo II, but a lot louder lol. I think pricing on this is arond $600 from the GReddy website. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I wanna put up a sound clip too, but I have my camcorder, no voice recorder; only a digicam. The video and audio quality on my digicam sucks... trying to borrow something from any friend.
If you guys are SoCal local, you can PM me and maybe we can meet up 'n you'll hear it in person

Is there a way you can post a pic of your exhaust WITH the silencer on?
The exhaust is the last part that I still need to get on my turbo GSR setup and I can't decide between the Thermal or this GReddy TiC. Do you have experience with Thermal to compare the two? Do you know if one is louder then the other?
I definately like the look of the TiC so if you can post a pic of it with a silencer on(since that's how I'll probably run it most), I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Oh... one more thing... does the TiC system have a built-in resonator?

Does ANYONE have experiences with both the GReddy TiC and Thermal? Any big differences? I'm trying to decide on which one I should get for my GSR-T that I'm building. Thanks in advance!
