Redshift LCA Exhaust Any experience?
Okay, here i am, time to start looking for a replacement exhaust system and I am stuck. I have pretty much 3 choices:
1. HKS Sport (the choice for EF'ers) if you can find one.
2. Redshift LCA Exhaust

3. Tanabe Concept G

Now I know most people are against the canister type mufflers, but the Tanabe seems the niceest from what's available. The Redshift is very much purpose built. And the HKS is the old standard.

http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com - from the site -
- Relatively quiet (2.25" system meets local 93 dB requirements)
- Only 18 lbs total weight (compare with 28 lbThermal exhaust)
- Eliminates rear swaybar and rear chassis contact and rattling!
- 2.25 inch piping throughout (NO bottlenecks)
-T304 Stainless Steel construction throughout
- Uses the original hangers locations for a simple, easy fit
- Expert, professional fabrication done in-house
and one user review -
The RedShift LCA Exhaust is a fantastic design for autocross competition particularly in the STS class. Anything more would be too heavy, anything less would be too loud. The fitment was perfect especially compared to most other aftermarket close enough systems. The turn down tip is a nice design to help keep down sound levels outside of the car unlike comparable side exit systems. At only $420 for a full stainless steel perfect fit made to order exhaust this is a deal and a half.
And sorry for this cross post, i figured i might actually find Redshift users in here. This will apply to a DD soon to be autox'ing.

If you aren't interested in having a local shop weld up a custome (and cheaper) exhaust for you, then I'd go with the Redshift parts. At least you'll be supporting a company that is actively involved with SCCA competition...

hmm, I like the functional design of the Redshift, although I'd be hesitant to run it on a street application until I had a chance to hear one in person.
The Apexi WS-II is a nice alternative to the HKS. Very similar look/design, and its very quiet for an aftermarket exhaust. It's almost stock-like during normal driving.

From what Chris has posted on the site, it is approx 95dB at 50 ft and 92db at 50ft with an optional silencer.
I love the design and setup, but yeah, hesitant on a street car in cali.

According to the HKS U.S.A. website, they still make the sport exhaust for the 1988-1991 Civic Si: http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=789

Maybe you have not been fallowing Nickel prices lately, but since stainless steel is a nickel based allloy $420 for the redshift seems pretty good considering how nickel prices have risen in the last year.

The cost of materials involved in exhausts is far less than the labor cost... so even if materials costs go way up and its passed on to the customer it doesnt impact the final prices *that* much. There's been a huge fuss about steel prices for the past few years for cages, but when I had the cage built for my racecar the total materials cost was < $200... and the fabrication/labor cost was over $2000.
Quality labor isnt cheap... and its often money well spent.

.........and so your implying 420 for a stainless steel exhaust system today after nickel prices have risen nearly 400% in the last 1.5 years is over priced?

I"m not implying anything... read into it what you want.
The price for that exhaust system, IMHO, is very good considering the labor and R&D that has gone into it but thats just my $.02.

My Redshift exhaust is scheduled to be delivered next Wednesday 5/16/07. They have been great guys to deal with. I'll post pics and hopefully some sound clips once installed. I'll also give my impression. My rex is primarily a track car that gets towed and maybe sees 2,000 miles a year on the street so I'm not worried about the noise.
If you are referring to the old school HKS exhaust with twin tips, that exhaust is only 50mm, fyi.
Oh yeah...and that Tanabe exhaust looks like sh*t. It just looks ricer-ish to me.

Okay, at least someone will have this soon. As I mentioned, I do really like the Redshift exhaust, just want to make sure sound wise, plus they do mention about an available silencer to reduce level on the street.
The Tanabe I was on the fence because it was stainless and not an angled can. Seemed ok, but yeah, maybe not.
Didnt know the HKS was so small. I thought it was at least 2.25. Good to know.
Also talked to Chris at redshift about the Thermal R&D exhaust, except with dual stock looking tips. I think that it will be between those two systems.
nickrps, if you could keep me posted about when you do get the exhaust mounted and a sound clip when you do it'd be appreciated.

Kteller's not bad. Especially if you're looking for a complete exhaust. The redshift exhaust looks nice and I'm also curious as to how loud it is on the street.
Plus you'd be supporting some good people at Redshift

I'm the sound chief for the Atlanta Regiona SCCA and our dB limits are 96dB @ 50'. That's loud. Sometimes I'll hear a car and go, "awe man, that's never going to pass sound and as it goes by the meter I'll get a reading of like 90 or something.
Anyway, 95dB @ 50' is LOUD. Why don't you just do the supertrapp thing like 90% of the auto-xers I know (including me). I drive it daily with 9 discs and it's not bad at all. Probly reads about 88dB. I'll remove the disks for big events that don't have sound rules for the couple extra HP but I'm always sure to put the discs back on for the drive home.

Oh, I forgot to mention that you'll definately scrape the hell out of what ever exhaust you get if you drive it on the streets in a car as low as an auto-x car. That's another reason to not get a nice exhaust.

Ok, I'll be posting pics and video (sound) clips tomorrow. I just got done installing it and need to pick up some buddies from SFO (flying in from east coast and Canada for Eibach!!!)
Here's a few things I found:
-in an ED/EF, if you're using an OmniPower test pipe it is too long. You'll need to cut 2 inches out of it
-The exhaust installs super quick
-The exhaust is stupid loud...almost buddy club spec 2 loud, but it does sound bad ***.
-I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS EXHAUST FOR STREET CARS
Thanks God I trailer my car and drive it on the street once or twice a month. Now I need to get something fabbed up for Laguna Seca
