Default Intake for Turbo, what's everyone using

Are you guys running an intake on your turbo? Or just a screen?
I'm looking at some 3" intakes to see which brand is good. I know ebay got some cheapies, but don't know if they will last. I read somewhere on TurboMagazine that cheap intake filters can get crushed in by the suction after the components get hot and lose rigidity if it is connected directly to the turbo. Any recommendations since I've been running a fine screen and would like to protect the turbo.

i run a k&n right of the turbo. if you have space, you should try to move the filter away from any hot air, like a cold air intake

K&N if your set up allows it BUT if not put some screen on it. Stay away from cheap *** filters and EBAY junk, you can see at least 3-4 threads on here where people used cheap fiklters and sucked the filter element or parts of the fiklter in their turbos and screwed them all up, and for what to save $20-$30? Not worth it

You don't need proof.

Simple fact. If you start with less, you end up with less.

And they are priced reasonably as well. Summit Racing has mostly all of their sizes, you just have to figure out how to convert their part numbers from their PDF to Summit's part numbers. So far my K&N has served me for the better part of 6 years

My compressor inlet faced my passanger side, so I just came across with piece of 3" piping/ k&n filter on the end and it was positioned were the battery would have been sitting (now relocated to in the trunk).

take into account how ******* hot a turbo gets after driving it any distance at all. once the air goes through the turbo a difference of what MAYBE 5degrees?? will show negligable difference at the throttle body. granted less heat=better, but it won't do **** having a filter on the turbo vs. moving it a foot in the engine bay.

exactly what i would think. the air temperature difference from the atmosphere directly feeding the turbo versus the same air going through a CAI and then into the turbo is negligable. you should rely on your intercooler efficiency to provide the desired temperature drop, not a CAI.

also, the CAI deal seems to be very popular with the srt4 guys ... not really sure why???

Why would you assume that the difference will be "MAYBE 5 degrees." Even so, a 5 degree less intake temp at the turbo will translate into get what 5 degree difference at the TB. A larger difference comes when the filter is located outside the engine bay.

The SRT guys like CAI because they are unforunate in having the turbo right behind the motor. Locating the filter outside the engine bay might give you a 15 degree drop in intake temp.
