Question about 99-00 Y8 IM manifold and air injection
Exactly what does the air injection do thats so special on the 99-00 Y8 IM ? as it seems that everyone advertises thermal gaskets for 88-00 Y8 motors but in all reality they do not work right out of the packaging on 99-00 with out plugging up the holes. So what are the advantages to having air injection as opposed to not ? Has anyone else with a 99-00 EX plugged these holes up ?
Just trying to gather some info here.
Thanx

It's like a FITV. Let's air pass when the coolant is cold and doesn't when it's hot. That's why it sits in the thermostat housing.

Yep, more than likely. Part #24 is it.

Mine are full of JB weld and have been for years. I installed a 99-00 y8 mani on a 97 y7 block probably 5 or 6 years ago and nobody seemed to have even heard of the air injection holes causing a problem at that point.
yea going backwards is easy my question is what needs to be done to get rid of it while still using the 99-00 IM on y8 that has it as in what needs to be plugged and such.

i would like to know this also....
mine is a stock 99 Y8, only im converting it to obd1. when u plug the holes on the mani, is there anything else u need to do? or is that it? or are there other parts that u can remove?
ill try to take some pix of mine tonight so maybe we can compare...

yea im in the same boat converting to obd1 with a p28 - did you break the sensor in that pic ? I broke mine exactly in the same spot trying to get the hose off

well.. that one i dont remember... this motor has been sitting for like 4 years... the hose that was on it, where did it run to?
but i did however break the Knock sensor off the back...

i wonder if item #24 (the entire bolt/sensor) can simply be removed, and then just plug the hole on top of that thermostat with a bolt of some sort?

looking at the diagram above... i think if u put a plug on the intake, then remove the FIA control valve (#24) & plug it, then put a plug on the nipple on the manifold.. it might be ok...
especially if ur running obd1...
opinions??
