SRDE won't rev past 3k - What's wrong???
I have access to a 91 SRDE20 car that may become a future track toy. First thing first though, so I need to get it on the road.
The car was running great 4 years ago, got into the hands of someone who wasn't diligent with maintenance and was roughly treated for 2 years before sitting for the past two years.
The car was restarted this weekend, after locating and fabbing a temporary air filter, some tires, a battery and gas.
Engine does not rev under its own power past 3k rpm, in any gear. You can force it higher by downshifting - the car will maintain the higher rpm with WOT, but it won't go higher.
The car has 122k on the odometer and to my knowledge is on its originial cat, originial timing chain and had been driven for an unknown amount of time, before the 2 year parking, without an air filter.
What do you think could be the reason for the engine issues? It idles and sounds ok.
Help me rescue this thing.. thanks.

Umm, maybe visit http://www.nissanforums.com since people there know a little more about the sr20de
the 3k rev limiter is a result of the ecm being in failsafe due to a code. most likely it has a code stored (my guess is maf sensor).
http://www.sr20deforum.com is another good place where you might post.
MAF, throttle body (TPS sensor plugged in there), idle control valve or some other electrical gremlin would be my first places to check.

If you can limp it out to Summit Point this Saturday, I can borrow a Nissan Consult (tm) code-reader-computer from work and we can find out for sure exactly what's up.
How do plugs, cap/rotor, wires, etc look? Timing? Etc?

Thanks for the advice and leads to the other sites, and the diagnostic help (unfortunately, it wasn't in satisfactory condition to limp it back to DC from Delaware).
Plugs, wires, timing, etc. are all probably in need of attention. I'll do plugs and wires and an ecu code check the next time I'm there. Will need to get it into my garage for more serious work. Hope to bring it out and play with the local SE-Rs.

If you don't figure it out, try calling Jim or Clark at Jim Wolf Technologies. Clark knows more about the electrical stuff than almost anyone. I have a SR20DE powered car and they have both helped me out alot.

You have to love this board...drivers of other makes are posting here and getting good answers or places to find answers. Tell me other boards that will do that.
Yup, this board rocks. I drive a miata but been reading this board for the past couple of months now.. coming out to the SP NASA HPDE to run with the HT crowd as well. Got turned on the board through ECHC stuff.
Yeah me too. Been reading this stuff for months, finally joined a week ago. This is simply the best automotive site. Regardless of what you drive.
I drive a NX2000. Do any of you other guys have SERs, or G20s.
Yup. I have a beater gray 93 SE-R track-toy-in-progress. Details are at this link. I used to have a black 91 SE-R, but it got rear-ended last summer... Details are here.
At work I have several brand-new SE-R Spec V's at my disposal. Great cars, but totally different from all previous versions. They're ALL great cars, though.
