Default Brake Systems different in Si vs. VTEC?

What is the difference between the brake systems in a prelude H23 and H22? They all have different part numbers and I have a 94 prelude Si H23 that I am swapping a 93 H22A1 motor into and is there anything extra I have to do?

Vtec Rotors and Calipers are bigger, but you dont have to do anything with them. They dont interfere with the swap at all.

Do the VTEC ones bolt right up to my 94 Si? Cause As long as i'm replacing everything I might as well get bigger brakes if they work... I need to get all new calipers, rotors, and pads caused everything is rusted and seized from sittin so long.

they are pretty easy to swap out, I didnt really notice much of a difference when I sold my old 92 Si and got my 94 vtec. Some will probably say its worth it, although you will be hard pressed to find a 14" wheel that will fit over the vtec brakes, if any 14's even will.

no...calipers are not bigger. just the rotor. The caliper is the same size, its just on a diff. bracket to allow the extra inch of the rotor

ok so I found out that the rear calipers/rotors on both cars are exactly the same... the fronts have larger rotors and different calipers... so If I got front VTEC caliper brackets for my Si would they bolt right up with no problem?

The brackets for the calipers are different.

The rotors are bigger at the front.

Calipers themselves are the same size.

Will bolt up no problems.

Actually there is a problem. I bought a Baer big brake kit and they said they would only fit on a vtech car. I bought them anyway thinking they were full of it. They were right I had to buy a pair of knuckles off of a vtech car just to get the kit to fit.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by racerx &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">g S/SI to vtec brake swap: There’s a common misconception about the 4th gen’s popular vtec brake swaps, in that there is a performance difference between the S/SI’s and vtecs calipers. Theres NOT. In fact ALL 4th and 5th gens have the same caliper pistons front and rear regardless of what trim level. Honda's part numbers for the calipers won’t match due to change in manufacturers. However, the caliper pistons do have the same part numbers. The pistons will also measure in at 2 ¼” across for the front and 1 5/16” for the back. In addition, the 3g Si’s also use the same brake set-up front and rear as the 4th and 5h gens. The difference between the vtec and non vtec model Preludes is in the rotor diameter and caliper bracket. The vtecs have an 11.1” rotor where the non vtecs, including 3rd gens, have a 10.2” rotor. That 1" difference makes an 11% improvement in braking torque.</TD></TR></TABLE>

This is probably going to spark some debate, but thats ok

I can say from personal experience that the calipers from an Si and VTEC 4th gen prelude are NOT the same and will NOT work. I read the same post from racerx and bought vtec rotors and caliper brackets and attempted to install them with the Si calipers. The problem is the mounting holes on the Si caliper are oriented a little bit differently and when all bolted up, the caliper piston does not center on the pads. it misses by about 1/4 of the area of the piston. When its bolted to the bracket you can actually see past the pads and into the center of the piston, which would eventually fill with sand, dirt, and water from driving. not a good thing. plus you wouldnt be getting the force from the full area of the piston, also detrimental.

I ended up getting a full set of vtec calipers with brackets to do the swap. If anyone doesnt believe me, feel free to buy the extra vtec brackets off of me and try it yourself

I replaced Rotors and Calipers/Brackets. Your Si should have 15s on it, so you shouldnt need new wheels, Unlike the S chassis that had 14s.
