Default Stage 1 clutch not good enough for forced induced?

Will stage 1 exedy racing clutch get the job done after the engine rebuild and turbo kit or will I have to upgrade to like a stage 3?

my stage one held up to about 20k of abuse from a 215whp setup, the setup changed and was making close to 300whp and about 210ft/tq without a problem, but the motor let go before i really was able to see what the clutch had. Honestly look into clutchmasters or competition clutches

i would upgrade the clutch setup now, so you can have that out of the way for larger power than minumum power becuase of a weak clutch

I would hardly consider an exedy stage 1 clutch "weak"
i think they are rated to 250ft/lbs torque or something like that
I have one in my car for ~10k boosted with 250whp/210ft/lbs (on a mustang dyno) and it has NEVER slipped once. Occassionally when spinning the tires at the top of second, you can smell it, but it's not slipping.
Keep in mind, exedy's stage 1 is NOT a stock replacement clutch like most other companies stage 1's

however taking it into consideration that he didnt just blurp out stage 3 for no reason, if he is looking to make a decent ammount of power 350+ he might consider upgrading the clutch, however if he didnt just blurp out the stage 3 without having a in mind whp goal than that will determine what clutch he might need

he stated rebuilt not built engine. and what happened to a stage 2?
by the fact that he skipped stage 2 in his question, i'm going to assume he blurted out stage 3 for no reason

I had a Exedy stage 1 clutch in my boosted GSR, Held 270whp/210 TQ no problem...Since you are in the market for a clutch Id go with this one http://www.hondaems.com/clutches.htm. This cost about as much as a stage 1 but it can handle more then a stage 1 . Also there is a thread about this clutch some where so look it up and see if its for your liking.

The Exedy stage 1 (Organic) has like 30% more clamp capacity over stock. Big deal. That clutch will slip like crazy going into high whp numbers. You may have just gotten lucky with that one...

the guy above you must have gotten lucky too then lol
but ya, if he's going to replace his clutch i would not recommend a stage 1 for his setup. i read his post as he already had the clutch in and wanted to know if it can take it or not

Haha touche!

I saw his post after I wrote mine....the only reason I say this, is because I had two friends with the Exedy Stage 1 clutch in boosted cars. One was a z6 hatch, and the other was a D15B Coupe. Both were slipping like crazy on like 7lbs w/ a garrett t3. Thats why I just overlook the Exedy stage 1

I guess you can call me a little biased haha

hmmm...that's weird..perhaps the stage 1 for d series is just a stock replacement or maybe they confused a stock replacement with a stage 1? lol i have no idea, all i can do i give my experience

Well yeah, acutally my goal by the end of the summer is no more than 220whp. (Sorry for not being specific) but will my Stage 1 Exedy get the job done for that much power? Oh and, it is definately not just a replacement, to get this confussion settled, I can definately notice the difference from the oem clutch.

I was hoping my Exedy stage 1 could take 275whp on a stock LS.

clutch's go by a torque rating, not hp.

Not in a thousand years IMHO.

Like I stated before, both friends of mine had that same clutch with a simple t3 on 7lbs and it always slipped...one of them finally switched to an ACT, and the other a CM (not my favorite either)...to say the least, both have had no problems since.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by danny_civic97 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Well yeah, acutally my goal by the end of the summer is no more than 220whp. I dont think the Exedy Stage 1 will hold even this much...

I mean, not to get it twisted, you will be better off with this clutch over stock, however for a D series, its about the same....at least i think. I could be wrong though.

Dammit, my boss said he had one on his 300whp Integra, and he said it was fine.

That sucks. So basically I wasted money on a clutch, and labor for absolutely nothing

how long did your boss's clutch last before it fried? it's hard to imagine an exedy stage 1 holding up to that much power for long.

Yea exactly. Thats what im sayin bro...that is a lot of power to be running a 300whp car on.

My friends werent even making 200whp and the **** was slipping...just hard to imagine that.
