Dangerous is sitting on the ground and cranking on the bolts with the shock body pointed away from you, then at the last minute as you give it a good pull the shock turns back towards you and shoots the entire assembly at your face.

I watched this happen to my friend. He's lucky he has all of his teeth still.

I used to step on the shock and gun the nut off, it works pretty good. I bought a spring compressor eventuially, I got a good deal on it, and it looks unprofessional when a customer watches me do it that way. Many people seem to think that the shock will go flying like 100 Ft, which isnt the case with our shocks. Only on bigger cars will they go flying. Theres a vid somewhere in the archived teg forum and it shows a person steping on the shock and gunning it off, its not a big deal

because the springs are lower, you cut the bump stop to give it more travel.

yea, un screw the nut on top and the top hat should come off seperate the spring+strut assembly and also allowing the bump stop to slide out.

I feel the need to remind you to be very careful. While some believe the spring and/or shock won't go flying off I would rather be safe than sorry. Springs can retain an immense amount of energy. Go to an auto parts store and rent a spring compressor or take all 4 springs/shocks to a shop and get them to swap them for you. That way you are still involved in the swap, save some cash and are safe.
