hi guys,

i want to settle a dispute with my friend

which of these is the faster around the Nurburgring: NSX-R or R34 GT-R ?

i know the Nurburgring has changed nmerous times throughout the years...but does anyone have a reliable source which quotes the lap times? of these cars in their stock state?

So far the R34 GTR has broken most of the stock records running in nurburgring even surpassing porsche gt2/3 times. Of course I don't have actually proof of what I am saying but it is what I read awhile back.

i have a video of the nsx type-r vs. R34 vs. rx7 TT vs. Evo VII vs. Supra TT and the skyline starts out in last place and finishes the five lap race about 10 car lengths ahead of the rx-7 (followed by the nsx-r)

I thought the old NSX-R had the record for a stock car at Nuremburg? Maybe that's old.

The Skyline R34 GT-R owns the record for fastest STOCK car at Nurburgring.

BestMotoring posted a 8".03 sec. run at Nurburgring back in 1994 with the NSX-R. Don't know what R34 did though. I'd like to see proof that the R34 can do better than that. Please host video clips of the R34 doing better!

yep, i've seen that video. good stuff. as you see in the video it all comes down to driver though. an r34 isn't -that- fast stock, i have some stupid mclaren promo video where a stock r34 gets ripped on by a mclaren. oh, what mods can do.
a $100,000 r34 would smoke a mclaren in everything except -maybe- top speed and you could slap some dirt tires on and rally it. i love you japan.

The R34 has the record for the fastest production car at Nurburgring. That's why there's a R34 "Nur" edition this year, to celebrate its record.

The NSX is great and all, but stop kidding yourself.

TO MUGENDC2R:

Kinda funny how your screen name suggests that you must be a Honda fan, but has no respects for the constructor's Flagship sports car, the NSX. I guess this goes for almost all of you here at HONDA-TECH.COM whom you supposedly owns Hondas, like the ITR or riced out Civics, but instead reserves your loyalty to non-Honda cars like the R34 or even Supra and talks lowly of the NSX. Strange and ironic indeed, as this sort of pig logic really puzzles me. No offense to you guys, You're still entitled to your opinions, but had it ever occured to you folks that the NSX you're bashing on IS your ITR and Civic's BIG BROTHER?? What the heck?

TO MUGENDC2R:
What ever you've stated on the above post is just your opinion (you knew that, didn't you?), unless you cite facts to back up your beliefs. The NSX IS better than the R34 stock vs. stock because I've seen enough of professionally conducted tests between the 2 and the fact remains, the NSX beats the R34 in just about every category. As matter of fact, I'd like to know what kind of #'s the R34 came up with at the 'ring'. I'm not totally convinced unless someone can cite the link to an official Nurburgring website that has videos of it, or maybe just the record time posted. I believe that the R34 that broke the production car record ( I believe I've read it somewhere that it did a sub-8 second) was a fully tricked out R34 that had ridiculous HP, therefore it doesn't count since we're talking about stock cars here.
Thanks in advance.
Why I doubt that the R34 is better than the NSX? Motoharu Kurosawa, aka Gan-san of Best Motoring Video Magazine fame, tested the stock R34 in 0-100kph, 0-400m, and braking distance. As it turned out, it was nowhere near what a NSX type S can do. Also he noted that the R34 is loose in the back end during hard cornering, i.e., oversteer. Suffice to say he didn't like it. At the last segment of the test, he took the R34 to a road course (Sugo circuit I believe?) and it wasn't able to beat the NSX type S time that he posted on the same course. If I remembered it correctly, the R34 was ~1.5 sec. shy...... Anyway, this is why I have doubts about the R34 being able to beat the NSX in Nurburgring, given that the same driver who drove the R34 to record time also get the chance to drive the NSX also. If the R34 did set record as the fastest production car on the 'ring', then I'd like to conclude that it's the driver/car combination rather than the car itself. PD Cunningham, probably the best NSX driver around, should get the chance to take the NSX type S to the ring and give it a good run. I'd like to see what kind of # he can come up with...Maybe, just maybe, he's able to break that record..

stop lying to urself. and as for the rear end being loose?? thats wat the atst/super HICAS system is used for. AWD when the car detects any wheelspin/loss of traction...the R34 is just an awesome machine...NSX is nice too but we're jus comparing apples and oranges

You just made yourself sound very...um...dumb! Sorry but you make sound like the AWD and HICAS systems drive the car.

AWD when the car detects any wheelspin/loss of traction...
I've got news for...You can still lose control with AWD! Not hard at ALL!

and as for the rear end being loose?? thats wat the atst/super HICAS system is used for
that's nice but it still is not God and it wont save you or make you faster, it may actually make your times slower! I wouldn't be surprised if they run the R34 with the fuses taken out for the traction control.

the R34 is just an awesome machine...NSX is nice too
I'm not going to argue with you on that

TO REGTEG1:
HOw could I be lying to MYSELF for CITING an unbiased review done by an extremely expeirenced race car driver that has 40+ years of being Japan's fastest? HUH ???? I didn't do the review! I'm just citing a very credible performance testing professionally and unbiasedly done by this famed and respected retired pro racer which proved that the R34 is not as good as most people made it out to be (ie, ovverrated), nor even better than the NSX in raw performance or handling characteristics. As matter of fact, at the introduction of the show before the R34 was driven, Gan-san, the pro racer that I'd just mentioned a sentence ago, had the expectation that the R34 is as good, or better than the NSX that Nissan Claimed it is, but after the testing (toward the end of the review) he was somewhat disappointed over the fact that the car had this tendency to go into uncontrollable oversteer when cornering at the limits. Anyway, Your lashing out at my last post in defense of your mere opinion (with no data to support your claim) would only make a bigger fool than you already are, as anyone would when he/she is losing an argument. All I'm asking for is to have someone here cite track #'s and/or lap times of the R34 around the Nurburgring which undeniably prove that it is faster than the NSX-R's 8"03 seconds. THAT's ALL I'm asking for!! I'm not here to start any flames so you should chill out. There are non-R34 believers like me here at Honda-Tech.com that needs to see PROOF beyond doubt, AND NOT JUST YOUR PERSONAL OPINION of how your R34 is better than every other cars out there with nothing to prove what you're saying. So If you or anyone here can provide that short clip or to an official website that lists all of these for all to see, then god bless you! I will be 100% convinced and have total respect for you! BS walks and Facts talks !
