Do you mean just the "A/C" light? My hatch does'nt have A/C either, but when I press the button, the light still turns on. BUT, it's the dash from a 99 Si, so that may have something to do with it...

You can put it in and have it light up, but won't be functional unless you do a 99-00 climate control conversion.

just buy a 99-00.

It's not worth all the headache. The 99-00 climate control is nothing to write home about.

the swap takes 2 hours, max....easier than swapping out a header......

You need the 99-00 climate control, harness, 12v resistor, bottom half of the blower motor, all the brackets and electronic sliders, and the ducts directly behind the Climate controls

Its all plug and play after that, took me 2 hours to install, perfectly working 99-00 climate controls in my 96ex.

Most people think you need the heater/ac/blower from the 99-00, but really its ALL THE SAME. you just need the 12v relay, and the bottom of the blower, and the electronic sliders, to replace the Manual ones, and any helms will show you schematics on how this is setup.

seriously that whole how to, was the biggest waste of time, since its all interchangable

BOOM problem solved
