Default HID question

Can I put HID's on stock EM1 without blinding everyone driving towards me and NOT using projectors

No, even Casper shields don't work very well.

Just angle them down low.

Aiming lights down does not appropriately reduce glare, but it does reduce the effectiveness of the lights, which contradicts the whole idea of a "lighting upgrade".

None. If you want HIDs in an H4 housing, the results will be poor unless you utilise some form of retrofitted OEM HID setup. If you simply want improved lighting, look into some high-performance halogen bulbs and a headlight relay system.

It's hit and miss. I've seen good results (read better than PNP) with D2R bulbs and shields, I've seen bad results with D2S bulbs and shields, I've seen even poorer results with rebased H4's with casper shields fitted on (read glued).

i retrofitted 6000K HID headlights into my 5th gen, no projectors needed they sell kits (you can find them on ebay for around $140-$150) it uses the same setup as say an acura TL which uses HID bulbs it comes with everything you need to hook them up including brackets to mount the ballast boxes...just tell them what type of bulbs your car takes and they will send you a kit you can choose between i believe 3000K and 12000K heat ranges. the bulbs will go right into the stock location just like replacement bulbs.

What you have described is not a retrofit. It's a PnP setup, and it's garbage. They are the exact "glare" he is trying to avoid.

There is no way, I'm blinding everyone around me, so I aimed them low. projectors the only way plus it uses the light much more efficiently therefore is even brighter(where you want it). I wanted my HID to drive at night not for the looks (6000k) so i'm considering retro fitting, it's almost the only way to go to get the clean HID projection in a civic.

I think those photographs clearly demonstrate how superior true OEM HID optics are, and the poor results produced by using an HID kit in an H4 housing.

I have a pnp kit and would not recommed it in a standard housing. the output is garbage and def. not worth the money.

The most you can do is aim your headlights down but nothing else works very well

If this is what you mean by "just fine", then I suppose you're right:

casper shields will yeild almost exact same results as other non projector hid vehicles. escalade, tl etc. weve compared mine in my dd at work against the wall with both escalades and tl's at the pattern is damn near identical. pretty much like the last pic ^^^. if its good enough for acura and cadillac im ok with it. so save the hammer to the head for someone that didnt research before posting.

those are my headlights (pics above) jackass - i did research. I have had a 9006 kit in my teg, h3 kit in shitty *** projectors in '97 hatch. the hylow kit in my '00 hatch (the pics you see above) & now TL bi-xenon with ZKW lense swap

show me cutoff pics of yours vs escalade or acura - I guarantee that there is much more glare above the cutoff. I bet they "look" the same if you just looking at the lights NOT THE CUTOFF. those OEM reflector HID setups have reflectors specially designed for HIDs - not just $20 casper shields. also have you noticed most oem hids setups have evolved to projectors

here have some more lolz

edit - thats called glare directly above the cutoff

see all the extra light
