Default B16A or B18B With wierd situation......

Ok so heres the situation..

I currently am driving a EK4 auto and would like a little more power then what i currently have and would like a B16A*si* or B18B*ls* but the thing is i would like an auto tranny because it is a daily driver for work and I am a traveling technician and here is a link to a SLOW day at work... This is driving during the hours of 10-5 in so cal and for those of u in so cal i would like ur input on if driving stick would be hell with this kind of map to drive during those times... For those that dont want to look at the link a slow day is around 97 miles....

http://maps.yahoo.com/beta/ind...mag=7

So should i get a b16a or a B18B or a b20z... for a daily abused car

and should i stick with my intentions of staying auto just because of the hell of a drive i call work or should i get stick and tough it out in traffic everyday?

Saying that a manual gets better gas mileage is a HORRIBLE yet widely known misconception based on the EPA's "everybody drives perfect and slow" bullshti theory.

Truth is that you can't shift as low as an automatic w/o the car lagging. In terms of physical possibilities, manuals can get better gas mileage than automatics. In terms of actual driving, automatics get better gas mileage than manuals.

On that note, go with the B18B. Not only is it easier to find and cheaper, but it also has more torque making it a very pleasant drive ESPECIALLY if you're stuck in traffic where you need to move rather quickly without revving the **** out of it. Torque = good in traffic or daily driver.

Go with the LS, you won't be sorry, going with the SI motor in a situation like urs is not only stupid, but it's a waste of money and you're gonna get worse gas mileage b/c despite the lower displacement, it has to wind more to get the same acceleration, therefore, it will rape ur gas, especially in traffic. It simply doesn't have the torque to get it moving, etc.

General rule of thumb: "sticks in traffic aren't better for anything, pain in the ***, straight up"

Most definitely get the LS.

im sick of these popping up left and right, we should just have a HUGE sticky about the negative effects of rice

well his situation is a lil different from mine... his is a daily driver for school n shoping... mine is a daily abused car of around 100ish miles a day... mainly traffic freeway and traffic streets since i drive around during 10-5... so stick would just be suicidal... so from reading the other post i see torque would be a major issue for me.. so i guess it goes to a B20z vs b18b???

b18b, b20 has issues with the sleeves cracking, or from what ive heard

plus i do 80 miles a day, and would NEVER do an auto for DD'ing, why? because if that tranny where to go out, i would have no idea what to do, except buy another. Plus i think the 5 speeds are easier to swap

and not sure about the ECU's i know vtec and non-vtec are different.

daily driver means basically stock
so bringing up sleeves cracking is pointless

anyways get bluetooth

why not bring up the sleeves cracking? why the hell would you want to put a light truck engine, inside a DD? plus anything could happen, i would take the stronger engine, because in the future, you never know the plans of this car

dont be scared of an auto, i have an auto for my DD they dont just "go out" any who i had to change mine cause i cracked the case (dont ask) i found one (complete tranny) used for $150 (doubt you can fix any tranny for that price) the install is not that much harder than a 5spd either. sleeves cracking only happens under boost or high rpm + hich comp (sometimes). for dd keepin it at its stock redline the sleeves will NEVER crack. if your state law allowes it, do the b20z with an AUTO tranny, if not do the b18b. autos are the best for DD i dont care what anybody says, im past the age that i need to shift every 5 secs also all you peeps saying dont get the auto, have you seen socal traffic?

true, im not in socal...i havent researched the b20 as much, which is what im actually thinking about for me, im more into torque vs vtec now, since i never hit vtec, unlike ricers in my state (open header)

is a b20 w/GSR trans a compatible combo?
