Default removing secondaries

I just pickup up an H22, and my mechanic told me that I should remove the plate in my intake manifold for better performance.... anyone heard of this? any thoughts?

Yeah you can do that, your talking about the 2nd butterfly on your intake manifold right? You'll lose some low end but gain high end since your shortening the runners.

will the gains in the high end make up for the loss in the low end (i.e., 1/4 time better or worse)?

This mod is not worth it. I have debated it to no end, and i've come to the conclusion that you will lose more than gain. For a mild setup it's not going to be worth it. Just my opinion.

I thought a lot about this as well, and I was thinking that our cars need all the help they can get in the low-end, and I decided not to remove them (or disable them). I'd like to do a dyno run side by side (easy enough to do) with them stock and with the butterflys disabled to see if it helps anything. I have a feeling I'm just screwing up Honda's great engineering!

i dont see how removing them will gain anywhere. In low rpm it restricts the induction so it has better low end performance. Past 5000 rpm the runners open making like if the butterflies were removed. You WILL NOT GAIN anything from doing this.

if you want to go all the way, then take out the center section (not just unplug it) then tak e a grinder and turn the 8 holes into 1 big opening that splits into 4 runners down inside it

i have an intake manifold where i did that.It performed like ****.i woudnt recommend it.Takes alot of time to do.And it made the cars low end disapear.i re-installed a stock one WITH the butterflies...runs beautifully. And it saves gas too!!

I also urge you not to do it. If it was a race-car, maybe, but when you remove those runners you may even get a "bog" below 3k rpm, which will get quite annoying in a daily driver.
