Default Motor Mount ?

So I've been doing research here on the ES and prothane mounts. I saw bbasso's review of the jimfab mounts (Web site closed btw) But I came across these on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

Has anyone ever heard of AVID Motor Mounts? My Mounts are pretty much done, but w/ the jimfab mouts no longer being available I'm not sure what else to look for.

Thanks

I am pretty sure I have read of Avid mounts having problems. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Another alternative could possibly be Innovative. I am using them myself (i think the 75A/black) and love them. I believe there are quite a few others using them as well. Also Baby NSX made a thread asking about them not to long ago.

After searching through a few threads, there seems to be some mixed replies.

Indeed I was in the market for a set of engine mounts while I rebuilt my engine. After much thought I decided to pay that little extra and pick up a set of Mugen engine mounts. They just arrived from King Motorsports... Thanks Clayton!!

I plan to use the avid mounts the next time my motor is out. Right now I have the ES prothane inserts and like them.

Same here, new OEM mounts with inserts doing their job well for me too.

That's the ticket . I have a set too waiting to go in.

In my research for the ideal mounts I've found that most, if not all, poly mounts make the cabin vibrate. To some it's not a problem and it doesn't bother them. Others hate it. I wanted the best of both worlds since my car is a DD. Mugen seemed to be the best option. Also considering that I haven't found a single person saying ANYTHING negative about them helped too

For the price of them, I'd be embarassed to say they suck

That is basically true of every aftermarket part we put on our cars. That is what makes part selection so difficult some times. You have to carefully screen the positive reviews and pay close attention to the negative ones.

While doing my research my gut told me that many people who were raving about the poly mounts forced themselves into believing that the added vibration was tolerable, but secretly they wish they had something a little more livable.

I think you are dead on with this comment. I have Innovative replacement mounts for a B series Ek. Discalimer: I know it is not ITR, but it is a similar Honda(same motor/somewhat different chassis/similar design elements & components), and I would expect the same results on all similar year/design Hondas.

The Bad:
When I first cranked the motor the car and engine sound/feel noticibly different, like what I would expect from a high performance car, not an econobox. Anyway, I got the red/65A/street inserts and the vibration at start up is increased CONDSIDERABLY. The first couple of times I drove it, I felt like I was going to puke from the added vibration and/or resonance. Maybe I don't know what I am talking about, but some times it feels like the cabin is resonating from the vibration and is quite irritating to your ears/head. All kinds of **** in the cabin vibrates/rattles/buzzes which is quite annoying. EVERYTHING IS MUCH LOUDER. If you get the billet mounts, the stock bolts seem too short. The additional mount material thickness is significant; 1/4" to 7/16" thicker than stock meaning 1/4" to 7/16" LESS bolt/threads holding the mount to the frame. Grade 10 metric bolts aren't that easy to find either.

The Good:
You get used to it after a few weeks. Once the motor is warm, the additional vibration at idle(700-800 rpm) is minimal. Definitely less slop/movement. So little to no wheel hop and feels noticibly more responsive. Lifetime guarantee on mounts. I went with Innovative because of the decent price, good reiviews, and much better designed than stock, EK driver's side mount. You can get rid of the front lower mounts, reducing some weight on the nose of the car.

The Verdict:
There is a LARGE trade-off of comfort for performance. I am sure it is too much for some, almost too much for me, and I ride on a fairly stiff suspension with no complaints. If I had an ITR, I would get OEM or Mugen (if they aren't crazy $$$ compared to stock, and are actually different (better design/material, not rebadged OEM)) and poly inserts. Easy to go back to stock(ish) if you don't like it.

Note:
If you get Innovative Mounts get the steel version, instead of billet, so you don't have to deal with the mount thickness/bolt length issue, unless you are a bALLA y0!
