Default Mugen header just installed and vtec is...

i just got my mugen 4-1 header installed today, pretty happy about the midrange, car seem more smoother then before. but one question tho, b4 i have ame CAI and my midrange was much slower and when vtec kicks in it wwas loud as hell, but after i got my mugen header installed today after 30 mins drive i've decide to let vtec kicks in and it was quiet... is that the way supports to be or something wrong with it ??? be honest i do feel a bit faster but or is it just my mind is doing the trick ?i know a header isnt gonna get me too much HP.. so as long as i dont dyno it i wont know!!

but my point was why is my vtec so quiet after the mugen header is in?? is it coz the air coming in from aem , new mugen header 2,5" makes more air going out so it's quieter? i have stock muffler and cat.
thx

Yes you answered your own question. When i added my header i thought something was wrong as well. More air flow will contribute to VTEC being less obnoxious in our ITR's. I loved it loud though when i just had the intake dont get me wrong.

My car actually squats (900 lbs rear springs!) and lets out what's close to an explosion when VTEC kicks in.

anything wrong with that ?
i was gonna get 4-2-1 but they told me it wont fit with my cat soi went for 4-1
and yes i'm using stock cat but will change it as soon as i get mugen muffler !!
hopefully it will makes my R go faster.but hey i'm happy with it already i think the price pays off. it was worth it. even tho mugen hurts my wallet.i'll post a pic tomorrow. i was scared right after i installed and drive the first 10mins there was some brown smoke coming out from my hood. and after i pop the hood i know right away it was the header changed color !! from silver to gold color.<--i was stupided about this smoking thing coming out

btw how can i tell if it's JDM or not ?? i know it's 2.5" but i dont know if it's JDM or not

There was no change in noise in my Type R when I installed my DC Sports JDM 4-1 (Mugen 4-1 replica) w/ 2.5" Carsound cat.

The 2.5" Mugen 4-1 won't fit your stock cat without modification. If it did, you got ripped off.

Did you have to have a special flange welded on your stock cat? If you did then your Mugen header is JDM. If you did not then the header is not 2.5".

if it is jdm it should have two little plates welded on it..one will say mugen power..and the other one will say jasma on it...which stands for japanese automotive sports muffler association......if it bolts to your stock cat it isnt jdm....do you still have the stock cat on it?

on the header it has mugen power mark welded on and i got the header from mugen authrized dealer in Canada which is Kennedy HiFi
and i'm not sure if they modified my cat !! for sure it's stock. i bnought the header and took to the body shop i know to install it !! my GF works there. i remember the owner of the body shop told my there is a bit different between my cat and my header but it still can be installed.
can someone post there mugen header ? and i'll post mine tomorrow to compare if it's the right one !
but if it's not 2.5" how come i can feel the car is a lot smoother ? coz if it's smaller size i should felt the same way with my stock header !

If it's not 2.5 you can still feel a difference.

as for the jasma stick on the header i just went to kingsmotorsports website to check the pic. it looks exactally the same to me !! it has one mugen power mark on it and dont have jasma's mark.
and if i got the fake one from mugen authrized dealer that would be a really big joke and i will have nothing to say.

Well it's not whether it is fake or not. We are trying to determine if it is the USDM or JDM header. Kingmotorsports sell both and will give you the USDM if you don't specify which one you want. Same price.

gettaluvr...you are right about the header's looking the same...they are the same, except the jdm one has a bigger collector thas the only difference...im sure you do have a true mugen header.so dont worry......but imo any type of aftermarket header, you will be able to feel a little more power over the stock iron manifold....

Not the pacesetter or OBX ones.

That's what I was thinking. Do you live in Taiwan? Isn't your ITR a "JDM" ITR? If so, shouldn't he have a JDM 4-1 OEM header and JDM OEM cat? I would assume the Mugen header is a JDM 2.5".. Ahh, I'm confused..

If you're trying to hit 230whp, you should make certain you have a JDM version.

Even then, I'm not too sure if that's the best header to hit 230whp with, but let's not get into that.

Measure the collector to see if it's 2.5".
