Default AWESOME Track Time (for me)

Yeah, I went to the track today for the first time since i got my Injen CAI. I am in Alabama and it was about Mid 40's today. A buddy of mine went last weekend in his 06 Si with just an injen CAI and ran a 14.7 as his best. I went out there today hoping to beat his time with like a 14.6 or something...first run of the day, i pull of a 14.2. and this is with just a CAI. (no exhaust, no header, no summer tires, just bone stock with a CAI) I go to get the slip and i look at it for a minute and freak out. So i tell myself, lets see if i can do a little better. Next run I pull off a 14.197. And that was my best run of the day. And i feel it was awesome.

1st run= 14.249
2nd run= 14.197
3rd run= 14.260
4th run= 14.287
5th run= 14.344
6th run= 14.527 (missed 4th)
7th run= 14.373

Best 60 foot=2.190
Best Trap Time=98.60 mph
Best Reaction Time=.560
Best Quarter=14.197

Im hoping with just another mild mod to break into the 13's. hopefully.

Here's a picture of my time slip from the 14.1

Sorry for the horrible quality, just look hard. If i can find a clearer way to post them then i will do that. thanks.

And heres a few pics of my car to prove its stock for all you non-believers.

Alabama International Dragway in Steele Alabama.

The weather was overcast, mid 40's (like 46 or 47, thats what it was when i looked at my thermometer on my car) and the track was running pretty good.

I launch at a couple of different places. I dont really look at my tach to much when i launch. Its not very high, when i launch, usually it varies from about 2700 to 3200. I dont really like launching to high. the few times i launched from like 4500 or higher, i hate that wheel hop, and all that mess. I like to get the launch off and then just go all out ***** to the wall.

There is no age requirement,You just have to have a liscense, but they dont even look to see if you have one..all you have to do is sign a waiver. pretty simple.

Another thing that made my day even better was the fact that there were 3 ss cobalts there. and they couldn'y catch very good times. 14.8 was the best i saw an SS run. I saw one guy run a 15.3 in an SS cobalt and i just smiled.

Do you just feather the clutch? and also, do you powershift? If so, do you hit redline or shift a little earlier? Thanks again.

Right before the green light comes on, i just dump the clutch and floor it. it wheel hops for a little bit, but as soon as that wheel hop stops, it catches relatively quick.

And yes, i was boost shifting/powershifting, (Holding the gas down all the way the whole time and just clutch and shifting as fast as i could, i know its not the best for the car but i have come to see that it works better, at least for me) I shift when i feel that is the very last second, as close to the limiter as possible. I wait for the flashing light to become solid and shift quick. but sometimes i do bounce off the limiter once or twice. other than that its good to go.

if you powershift...does the rev limiter still work? or is it like a misshift where the limiter does no good.

The limiter is still good. it works just the same. try it out. I think youll find that powershifting works a lot quicker. but i wouldnt reccomend doing it all the time. only when in "serious race mode".

Yeah, its all just a matter of timing. a perfect launch is .500 and my personal best is .550 so im still trying to master it. just practice and focus and you can drop your R/T and 60 foot easily.

Dont get me wrong though..i love ss cobalt's . i ALMOST got one in fact. i was disputing b/t the 2. Cobalts are fast cars as well. I just expected to see them run slightly lower times. The fact that they are in basically the same category as the Si makes me happy when i run a whole second better than one.

What is the stock 1/4 supposed to be on an SS and how do mods affect the engine. really well??

I want to know what the SS cobalts engine puts out with that supercharger taken off... I think it would be comparable to the TC then.

SS cobalts are trash IMO... they have about 10-15 more hp stock than us, granted more torque (thanks S/C) but they are already FI... even as sorry as the comptech kit or greddy kits are for our cars... they launch us as much as 50hp over the cobalts. Just seems to me like that little chevy is half topped out as it is. *ponders the Solstice GTP engine* now thats a spunky little RWD.

yeah yeah..i would also like to know what they put down if they were N/A. Cobalts have there positives and negatives. Im not going to bash on an SS cobalt b/c i personally like them, plus, i drive a civic, theres plenty of people out there that are just waiting for a civic guy like us to say something to start trash talk. But overall i am glad i have my Si

With 1500 dollars we see 12's, we respond really well to pulleys/intake/exhaust.
