Default Very high idle on B16 EG6

My friends Civic EG6 has started to idle at 3k from cold and then it drops to 1500k once warm!

This all started since he cleaned out the throttle body.

He replaced the idle control valve and bled up the whole coolant system but there was no change at all.

The car is displaying the code for idle control valve so its a weird one!

If the accelerator is pressed slightly the engine revs drop as if the engine was stalling, then picks back up to high idle. Not sure why it does this.

Nippy !

hmm, thats wierd it throw's the IACV code.. All the time? and u replaced it..
If it didnt bog down i would say just turn the idle adjustment screw, cause its supposed to rev high when it warms up.
does the idle go up and down ever?

yes, you should re-adjust your screw... my si was throwing IACV also. when i replaced it, i had to re-adjust it, but then it was fine. My only guess for why the code is still on is maybe you never reset it... or you are sucking oil out from your crank-case through your crank-case ventalator. if you are suckin oil; relace your PCV valve. lemme know how it goes.

Even re-setting the ECU it still shows the ICV code.

The idle is 3000rpm from cold and 1500 warm.

Where is the screw that needs adjusted on the throttle body?

What is the PCV valve also?

Thanks for the help guys !!

Check IAVC or the screw on the TB. Could also be that the car is overheating.

IACV was changed. ECU was reset and the adjustment screw has not been touched in the first place so should not need adjusted.

I tried it today though and it can only lower the revs slightly so no change.

Trying another IACV tonight or tomorrow so see what happens.

Replaced the IACV for the 3rd time now and also changed the thermostat. Still the same.

Thinking of just changing the whole inlet manifold for another one with all components still attached. See how that goes

Replaced the throttle body today and that has cured the problem. Looks like it might have been the throttle position sensor.

yea... its really tough to tell which is which... especially when the tps and iacv throw similar symptoms. If there is one thing i have learned through reading through peoples problems with the B16 motor, it is this, B16's are notorious for IACV, TPS, and 3rd gear synchro problems. I think there should be a service bulletin on these problems through honda. But thats just me.

I bet this wasn't even the problem in the first place.

Was the air bypass screw EVER adjusted?

If you cleaned the throttle body, you should readjust the manual bypass screw. ECU is throwing IACV codes because it can't bring the idle down to "idle" range even at full close. The ECU knows this and throws a code - as if the IACV were stuck or malfunctioning.

The new TB most likely just luckily had the bypass screw closed enough.
