Default code 7- Throttle sensor...replace? high idle problem

I am now getting a code 7 on my car. I adjusted the idle screw out all the way so it would idle at around 1K. Could this cause the code? Before; it had the erratic idle proble. Put a new dis. cap on it, bled coolant and still nothing. Turned the idle screw counter clock wise until the idle wouldnt go any lower.

Did you just do a mpfi swap on your car? We would need more info about what you did before we can help you out.

Usually an erratic idle is due to a faulty idle air control valve (IACV). Depending on the motor, it is usually found on the back of the intake manifold. There is a possibility that the valve just needs some cleaning as dirt and gunk can clog it. As for the code 7, I'm guessing that your TPS is going out or is near it. You haven't tried adjusting the TPS have you? Also, like Rice x gurl asked, engine info would be nice....i.e, what motor do you have.

problem started after I adjusted the idle screw out to lower the idle. It had the erratic idle going on. Now it idles at 1000 cold and about 1400 warm. It wont go any lower with the screw or throttle cable. I picked up a different idle controller at the boneyard the other day,but didnt realize it was the wrong one. The one on my motor was a black plug and points to the left, the one I picked up has a white plug and points right. I am going to take the stock one off this week and clean it up.

The motor is a d15 DPFI 89 civic LX sedan

i got a wacky idle too, maybe i'll try to clean my IACV, just to clarify thats the one with the electrical connections to compensate for A/C and stuff? Anyway how do you clean them?

Thanks,
VINCE

Did you back out the idle screw near where the throttle cable connects to the TB. If you did thats the problem. Using that screw set it back to the 1000 RPM and lock the nut. Then adjust the idle using the idle screw on the top rear of the TB. If it has never been adjusted it will look like a blind indention in the TB. Scrape the wax off the screw. Turning it counter clockwise will raise the idle, so screw it in. if you still have the TPS code then adjust it so that when the ignition is on but the car is not running the voltage between the center wire and the one closes to the TB is 0.45 - 0.5 VDC. If cannot be adjusted then most likely the TPS is bad.
