Default SOHC ZC in a 91 Si, what Tranny and shafts? Pics inside.

Hey HT....

So I managed to find a MINT 91 Si NO RUST from BC, which is RARE here in Ontario for a winter car.

It needed a motor so I purchased a SOHC ZC, which from what I "hear" is a DIRECT swap into an Si, using the same mounts and ECU. Now the issue that I may have is that the shop pulled a transmission off a different motor.

Its a L3 I just want to make sure the tranny will mount to the motor and to the stock Si shafts....

Sidenote what kind of clutch do these ZC's take? Size wise? I purchased an Dynapak kit for an Si and it didn't fit (too big)...

Here are some pics, sorry I'm not a pro photographer

Another issue!

Bolt is bent! Tried to retap her, I hope it will be a one shot deal when the motor mounts to it

ZC

Tranny

Code L3 2403814

Anything you guys need to to do to help ya solve this please ask!

Thanks!

well when i got my new zc tranny i started counting teeth and measure the pressure plate and disc... the i kept my old plan because it wasnt worn out bad but got a new disc., so i to find the disc the correct length and the teeth it would be either 20 or 21

and think if you have 20 teeth, its a 88-89 civic/crx clutch
and 21 is 90-91 civic/crx , but not sure have to double check

what actual tranny is it? look above the oil fill, there is a stamp that will say PL3/####
PL3/A### = small bearing case - DX/HF/STD
PL3/B000 = large bearing - SI/ZC
PL3/3000/6000/9000 = large bearing - SI/ZC

as for clutches, as long as you have a 90-91 flywheel it will use a 90-91 SI clutch. unless the trans is an '88(21 spline input shaft)

Hey Ryan;

I can't find that stamp, but I tried usin my passenger side axle on the mounting point and they go in snug, so I'm guessing its an Si...

Also the clutch plate mounts into the tranny perfectly so I may have no issue there

stamp should be right here

Ok:

Its Says PL3 A100? What the hell is this lol

Also the small stamp says 11 29?

I think its a DX tranny expletive!!! Is this true?

Will this trany mount up to the ZC still with the Si shafts?

My search found this NOTHING (for all the search replies) https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1590106

yes sir, it sure will. the sohc zc is VERY similar to a d16a6 (si) there are minor differences such as a better cam in the zc, etc.

only way to find out what trans exactly...

God Bless YOU!

Ryan I took my clutch plate off the ZC motor and placed it into the A100 transmission and the splines line up fine, I think the parts may work all together... Or I may JUST need a new clutch

Yeah he gots everything right on, from what he is telling you, but i had a feeling it was a DX transmission since it's next to impossible to find a SI cable transmission anymore nowadays.

If you still have a gold sticker on your old cable transmission, which you do in this case, then you can tell the year for sure.

It's like this...

88/89 cable transmissions will have a L3-1 gold sticker..
90/91 cable transmissions will have a L3-2 gold sticker..

I've got one.. I love it. Big difference in the sharp turns. I actually speed up more in the turn and it grabs hard. Felt weird the first few times. Tires are the only weak point now as far as traction is concerned.

Yeah my tranny says PL3- A000 on it...but i already knew it was a dx tranny since it's in my SI hatch temporarily for the time i been using it and i can go to like 40mph in first gear and like 60mph in second, lol..

BTW, of course it's a 5 speed, but you already knew that.
