You know it's D-O-H-C right? Not DOCH.

Thus, Dual Over Head Cam. Just letting you know. LOL, I'm tired of my SOHC.

base model rsx, accord, element, civic si (EP), crv all came with either a k-series 2l or a 2.4l. on these however the actual i-vtec function was utilized only on the intake side as opposed to both intake and exhaust camshaft. hence a generic term of sohc i-vtec even though it still is a twin cam motor

I dont know about that one. Kinda hard to believe honda would label thier DOHC K-series motors as SOHC, regardless of VTEC/cam lift.

That's retarted. Don't you guys read the valve covers...it DOES say DOHC doesn't it? It doesn't matter if the i-VTEC function is only on the intake side, it has DOHC. If you're just reffering to the fact that i-VTEC only functions with just one cam as in the intake side, that still doesn't change the fact that the motor has twin cams am I wrong? I'm sure i-VTEC is more complex than how you described it. If you give me a good detailed explanation I'll shut up. (^o^ x) Oh hohohoho.

according to your theory, you could call a motor SOHC if only one side of the cam carries vtec lobes.

so we could call a DOHC motor with no-vtec lobe/profile on neither of the cams..um...non-overhead cam engine? 0ohc? push rod?

just admit it

woah buddy not my theory..

ok, so when i posted that i didnt know my post would be critiqued, picked apart and over-analyzed so much. perhaps the overhead cam part isnt really fitting, but the single cam vtec part. someone asked about single cam vtec i said that some variations of k series are essentially a single cam vtec, even though it has two cams still. just a generic term that is used all the time to describe the lesser performing k20 cyl head.
