Default My sunroof story...

o.k. my friend Mike showed up today to help me drop the sunroof and to figure out why it wouldn't close all of the way. I took the interior plastic pieces off last night (A pillar, and the piece that is under the interior light, trim piece around door opening that fits around a pillar plastic, oh-**** handle, rear-view mirror, and the sun visors...oh and most importantly the headliner.) Be sure not to crease the headliner. This isn't going to be an ultra in-depth write up...just some pictures to help show what things look like and what the culprit of your sunroof woes might be.

What it should look like normally (passenger side on my car) :

What my drivers side looked like:

While everything was off, I decided to clean everything up. I pulled the gray panel off (be careful not to break the snap clips off, you can see where they are located in the picture...5 of them I believe) 2 screws and it's off. No rust here in New Mehico. I cleaned the aluminum rails sprayed them with some lithium grease and reinstalled.

I did the same thing with the frame. I didn't take it all apart this time because I just wanted to find out what needed to be ordered, and clean it up fairly well so that when I have the parts and the time I'll disassemble everything and make sure it's good for another 15 years.

If you haven't figured out yet I haven't thrown out any technical names for anything yet, but it's evident what they are by looking in a Helms. The following pieces were the only casualties of the day. They are:

*white push pins to hold headliner in (3 or 4 of them)

*the interior piece that is attatched to the rear view mirror (the two little tabs in the back broke off)

Does anybody know if that part can be ordered?

*I didn't break the other two black plastic parts, but the two that were still on the upper track (the one that is attatched to the sunroof) were cracked where the screw holds them down and the other two were just sitting at the back of the pan.

Once I figure out the part names and part #'s I'll post back with that information.

too late for that...I already have it bolted back in so I can drive it, but when I get the new parts and drop it again I'll be sure to weigh everything then

are u trying to figure out why ur sunroof wont close? if so, check out your second pic, the plastic piece that bolts to the track is broken, same thing happened in mine, only it came unscrewed, not broken, prevented one side from closing all the way.

im pretty sure sunroof components cant be ordered, only the whole roof assembly, sorry buddy.

Hey Keith, I see you.

Anyways, I'm gonna bet that those pieces, if they are part of the sunroof assembly cannot be ordered seperately. I'm trying to identify what they are, but manufacturers tend to keep everything as a unit for stuff like this. I will keep my eyes open though, I'm looking for a panel for the sunroof on the car I'm working on.

Keep your eye out too, I think I saw a honda parts manual floating around on the internet. Might be easier to find the parts and part#'s on your own than dealing with the monkeys at the dealership.

haha, I just got your IM...I was thinking, "who the heck is this" now I know I have a Helms manual, but yesterday I was just concerned with figuring out what was wrong with it, cleaning it and getting it back together. Tomorrow I'll make a list of parts and part #'s. I'll see if the panel is listed separately. If you ever need to borrow the manual lemme know.

probably, I had one but sold it with one of my other CRX's as part of the deal. I didn't remember part #'s though. I actually have a PDF of one now.
