NEW INFORMATION - ACT Clutches...interesting news
While I was walking around the last morning of IAS I was able to take a few pics, and have a really nice conversation with the people from ACT Clutches...here are my pics and the information that I was able to get from them.
- Family owned and operated business
- Changed the clutch to now include a steel lining to help assist with higher reving engines, glued and rivited the friction surface on
- Redesign of their previous pressure plates, no longer stock units(info stolen from ACT Clutches website):
"All new Integra pressure plates include ductile iron castings instead of gray iron, larger rivets, wider straps, and a new improved cover for less deflection. Future revisions of the diaphragm spring are planned to reduce flex with the heavy clamp load of our Xtreme and MaXX Xtreme"
New pressure plate:

New pressure plate surface
vs.
old surface:

New rivets
vs.
old rivets:

These are hard to see....
Old straps
vs.
new straps:

With these improvements I may be purchasing one of the newer ACT clutches for my vehicle...stock clutch is starting to die on me after all of the high revs...

best disc I have EVER used so far has been the clutch net solid hub full face
that with the extreme plate is the perfect street combo imo

what are you talking about?
ACT plates are the best I've ever used. And I've seen A LOT of brands.
My only problem is this, when using a 4 puck solid hub, its a bit harsh and
other people cant drive the car when need be, the stock disc(or any sprung full
face disc) is great, but i break the springs within 5000 miles.
The Clutchnet disc is perfect because it gives stock engagement with no springs
to break. I broke the straps on my ACT plate 3 times, and since they upgraded
the straps for me it hasnt broken since. Their customer service is TOP NOTCH
compared to others that I have dealt with, clutchmasters being the absolute worst.
I recommend ACT to everyone, and now that the ductile plate is std equipment
its really a no brainer.

to break.
Which disc are you referring to? on GBC all the clutchnet discs have springs, including the stage 1 full face
It doesnt come with any of the "kits" that i see being sold.
It comes separately. Check on clutchnets website.
Steve...you mean this:
"Air-Lok" Type, Organic Lining, No Marcel, Solid Hub Racing Clutch Disc

The one that they say is not for street use...how is the engagement, and how streetable is it, as I know that at times your streetable is a little bit more than the average joe can handle.

[EDIT]just read your new post

This one.
Havent had anyone stall the car and other than pedal pressure most say it
engages like stock. Even my mom drove the car, but then again she had
no problems when I had the 4 puck race disc in it either....
Just an FYI...the above clutch in Steve's post retails for $85.00 for the disc.
ACT - new Heavy Duty PP - $285.00 retail
ACT - new Extreme PP - $358.00 retail
So for ~$400 I could purchase a fairly good clutch/pressure plate combination.

CM Stage III w/ CM Flywheel...
Have you taken it up to 150miles+? The kevlar material starts to slip and on the track(not drag strip) loses grip at high rpms when hot.
I thought it was just my setup but heard this from others stating the same.

Anybody use the MaXX Xtreme pressure plate?
What are the differences between these three street discs:
00 - Stock Street Disc
MM - ACT Modified Street Disc
SS - ACT Performance Organic Street Disc

Oops - found the answer on their site;
SIMPLY SMOOTH! ACT Street Discs are designed for smooth engagement, quiet operation and improved durability using only the best organic, spring center designs. When an ACT Modified Street Disc is available, the suffix "M" appears in the disc part number. The marcel of the disc has been modified to enable quicker action. When a special ACT Performance Organic Street Disc is available, the suffix "S" will appear. These discs use special performance linings designed to withstand high heat and abuse. Most of these "S" discs are also modified for quicker shifting.
What is all the hype about different lining materials available? ACT still contends that nothing can beat a good quality organic disc for street use. Virtually all the premium sport car manufacturers use organic discs. The Eclipse/Talon AWD Turbo is a good illustration. This application can be especially hard on clutches for several reasons: all wheel drive, the heavy weight of the car, and limited clutch size. Yet because of the durability of the ACT Performance Organic Street Disc (PN MBSD010S) when used with the ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate, many of the fastest Eclipse/Talons owners enjoy smooth engagement and record setting timeslips.
