Alright, as soon as I get my scanner working I will post up my dyno graph. I have 2 baseline runs and 2 runs with the K&N drop in filter. The car is completly stock, has about 9,000 miles on the odo. The car was run on a Dynojet.

Stock: 182.83 hp, 133.46 tq

K&N: 182.90 hp, 133.18 tq

There's really no difference between the two filters when driving on the street, as proof from the dyno. VTEC is a little louder, and my fuel economy went up about 2 mpg.

So is it really worth it? For performance gains, you can get a real intake. But it's not a bad deal for $45 and its reusable. But for anyone who claim they feel a power increase with the filter, it's just the louder VTEC playing with your mind. Overall though, it's 10 out of 10..

There was a big all-at-once comparo featured on scionlife, the K&N actually lost a horsepower on the tC

i have it for my ex sedan...i can def feel it pull a lil harder on the top end but will be doing dyno/ 1/4 mile tests as well

i was in the same direction in doing R&D my self with the intakes out now

 

I dropped one in my Si about a month ago and the only real difference i noticed was the increase in sound... i honestly saw no gains in power(which is evidenced by your dyno #'s) or MPG . main reason for me getting it is that the filter is cleanable and reoilable plus it was only $15

i get 24mpg

im getting a free gallon with every tank.

a free gallon is like saving 2.90 every time you fill up

i payed 35 shipped for mine.

after i fill up 12 times the filter will have paid for it self

OEM Honda filters FTW.

Never liked K&N stuff...if its gonna flow more, something's gotta give. That and Used Oil Analysis with different filters show some interesting things.

I'd think that any quality filter would work. OEM is often just contracted to one of the major manufacturers anyway. FRAM (Honeywell) was making some Honda stuff like oil and air filters a few years ago.

 

honda air filters are factory oil charged.

haven't opened one for the si yet but most of them are by what my coworkers have said. I work for joe marina honda in tulsa.

 

no they are not oiled, because they are made of paper. Only cotton gauze needs to be oiled to help to trap larger particles and help flow. Paper filters don't flow as much, but are cheap & don't need to be oiled to filter large particles. . Scanner still not working. Sorry guys

It could be as simple as temperature change or the motor wearing-in. It's not conclusive that the K&N is truly responsible for that.

 

I know I am resurrecting an old thread here, but I am getting ready to change my air filter for the first time, not looking to buy an intake right now, is it worth me buying the K&N for the $47+ Autozone has it for? Or should I just get an OEM one for $22 and some change? I need it this week before I make the 8 hour drive home. Input would be great. Thanks!
