Mushimoto Civic 96-00 Radiator in my 4th Gen Lude - DIY How To

First off this is the radiator I bought http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT
A very nice alternative to the Koyo and Fluidyne $400 radiators.
This thread is a spin-off of Hawkze 2.3s civic radiator install, and I used his for guidance in my install. Thanks Hawkze
As you can see it fits quite nicely and maintains a low profile.

I applied Foam stripping between the radiator and frame fo keep the radiator tight.

The top mount I simply flattened with a hammer, marked position with a punch and drilled 2 holes for mounting bolts. I will be sanding and painting it yet.

Stock Passenger lower mount.

Bottom shot of Both

Here I simply used the extra top mount and marked position with a punch, drilled and attached using bolts. It could have been positioned slightly better with a welder, as you can see I had to cut out some of the rubber insert to keep the radiator tight against the frame and straight.

Nuts used for spacers.

Stock Prelude Hoses fit fine. I will know for sure if alignment is correct after I install the engine. Looks to be correct though.

Ok. Dropped in the engine and everything lined up great. I trimmed a couple inches off each the upper and lower hoses to improve fitment, but turned out great.

Yes it did. I actually just got this shell a month ago. Traded some stereo equipment for it
. I will get it painted Black someday. It is a real dark redish brown with Heavy flake. Would look nice but the paint is beat up scratches and chips everywhere.

It looks like the stock 4g prelude radiator hoses fit the inlet/outlets without modification? I remember in Hawke's post, he had to use part of the civic hoses as "spacers" on the inside of the prelude loses.

Yeah, did your Prelude hoses fit right onto the radiator?? Might be a difference between Civic radiators...

Nice, I plan on doing this too.
BTW, What kind of catch can you plan on using?
Is it okay i use your pic to make a thread on something that I need to replace on my car? I can't find any pics that have it clearly besides yours.

Yea they fit perfect.
Yea they fit perfect.
weird, my prelude hoses were too big for the civic rad. outlets. i had to use civic hosing.
and i tried using the stock prelude fans w/ the civic rad, but niether of them bolted up correctly. i'm using a civic fan

Do you happen to have the link to that original write-up?</TD></TR></TABLE>

Use the radiator that MadCityLude did because it has the right sized nipples. That's what I would have gotten had I known at the time...

I didn't think this modification could get any better. Now, I see the hoses fit right on. Sweet!
Hey don't hate the A/C fellas! I recall a bad experience in a freeway jam here in Phoenix. I would have given a limb for working A/C.

It looks like the 96-00 civic rad has larger hose openings, so you can use the lude hoses, as the older ones you have to space it with a peice of civic hose. That was the hardest part when I did my civic rad was getting the hose peices in, so this would make the swap much easier.
After spending a couple days looking for a fairly cheap priced OEM replacement radiator online, hell, I'd rather accomplish this. Frees up some space for anyone wanting to boost their Prelude.
Anyways, I'll try and get this right. All I'll need to purchase is the MISHIMOTO ALUMINUM RACING RADIATOR for a 96-00 Civic (ebay) and a fan for the same year, as the Prelude fans do not bolt up. Fabricating the mounts is a no-brainer & the factory radiator hoses fit snuggly - this is great!
I have 2 question, however. Have you had any problems with overheating using the A/C? I'll be sticking with A/C until I decide to boost my Prelude, or not. Also, will one fan suffice for an H23?
