EDIT: I know this is an old thread, but I saw that the pics where down so I fixed all the links.
In an effort to reduce wieght, replace my leaking radiator, and make more room for a turbo setup I decided to put a Civic radiator in my lude. There are many people with boosted H22s using these so overheating doesn't seem to be an issue.
So I bought one of these--

from here--https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1054593
and I got it quickly and the product is excellent. Better than in that picture, actually...
Then I bought a 14" electric fan from Autozone ($65) and an upper rad hose for a 95 Civic ($10). You will need the Civic hose because the Civic rad has smaller nipples so you put the Prelude hose around peices of the Civic hose.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First step is to drain the coolant. I undid the lower rad hose because my drain plug is broken off.
Then while it's draining, unplug the rad fan (or fans depending if you have AC or not), and then loosen all their bolts and take them out. Then unbolt the upper rad supports from the car and undo the hoses from the radiator. Then remove the radiator. Some of you probably have more crap in your car than I do, but figure it out.
Old leaky junk--

Next step is to mock up the location of the new rad so you can modify the hoses. Just hold it in place for now. This is what I ended up trimming off of the them--

It turns out that if you put the Civic rad in the lower mount on the passenger side it fits perfectly.
b

Then all I had to do was move my driver side upper rad support over by drilling one hole and mounting it as shown here--

/\/\Also note the foam strip. Once I put that on the back side of the rad support, everything fit nice and snug. You should able to get a small roll of it from any hardware store.
It also required some spacers so I used longer 10mm bolts and put some nuts inbetween to space it just right--

The fan I got fit just perfectly--

Then fill the coolant and follow proper bleeding procedures and enjoy.
Some more pics---

Hope that helps someone....

My f'ing scale is broken, but the aluminum rad feels like holding a feather compared to the stock one.
The intake is an ebay pipe with an Apexi filter and Hose Techniques couplers.

i thought the civic del sol vtec radiator was the one witht he hoses that were the same size as the stock prelude hoses?? maybe im just dreaming?
can anyone confirm or deny, hawk was this a generic civic radiator or a civic del sol one?

hmm nice write up.. i was going to run a civic radiator with my turbo setup, but didnt feel like doin that much work so i just stayed with my stock one and put two smaller pusher fans infront of it.

I highly doubt that it does. It was designed for a 1.6L engine, but i could be wrong.

I think he did, notice the solo fan sitting next to the stock radiator.
On second thought, the fans look diff, my B.

StreetImports lists it as a 92-00 Civic radiator, so that's really all that I know for sure.

Ricer hoses are only mandatory if you want to be a ricer. No, it doesn't have AT fittings....

Yes, if not more. This is a little wider than half of the stock one and twice as thick. I emptied the coolant into a bucket and put it all back in plus more.

Yes, but it would be more difficult than this one to install, as these fans have a universal mounting system. Plus it's not that expensive and it flows much more than stock.

Yeah, gotta make room for the manifold you sold me.
Yeah, gotta make room for the manifold you sold me.
How would this work in a boosted application with A/C? I want to upgrade my manifold to something...well...anything away from my current logstyle and this may require relocating the wastegate towards the front of the car. My main concern is keeping a/c. anyway, overheating is my main concern.
wow... you've done so much stripping of weight.... how much does it weigh now? but most important of all what is the handling like compared to stock... if you remember that is..

I plan to boost this car so I'm concerned about it also, but I've seen many boosted H22s in hatches and such that still run the stock Civic rad without problems. I think you would be safe.

It handles much better then stock! After I put these coilovers on I took my girlfriend out for a test drive. She never says anything about stuff I do in the car or anything, and I cut a corner really fast without braking and it stuck the road with no roll or anything and she goes "Daaammmn!!".

for some reason i thought that the civic del sol vtec had the bigger hose openings, hmmm... so you ende dup clamping the blue hoses over the smaller civic hose?

This is ******* awesome, good job. I was thinking about doing the exact same thing to shave some weight off the nose of the car. Can you get someone with a scale to weigh the stock radiator? I am really really interested in knowing how much it weighs.
