Yes you can use a crx dash in a hatch. For the VINs just drill out the rivets and swap them then just rivet it on.

I have done it I have a 91 CRX complete dashboard in my 89 hatch and I swapped the vin's and you can't even tell aside from the fact that my rivets are silver and OEM ones are black but what dumbass cop will notice that anyway? it looks completely stock my man.

I was told that you have to keep within the same year (IE: 88-89 CRx dash won't fit 90-91, but will fit 88-89)

Can anyone shed light on this hypothesis?
I think he said it was something with the electrical, but I mean you can always just swap harnesses anyways.

i don't believe you can just swap harnesses. the pinouts would be wrong. i put a 88crx si dash in my 91 std hatch and had to rewire the whole guage cluster but it will bolt in except for the bolt behind the lower console. but it still holds sturdy

As for the harness swap, I don't see why you couldn't just leave the electronics...snap, I just realized what you were saying, I hadn't even thought about that. Good call. Hmm...how hard is it to change thsoe pinouts?

Yeah, I was referring to my swap though.

For your swap, though, yes, you can dremel/drill out the old and rivet in the new.
