Default JDM d15b vtec

hi all, i had a d16z6 that i was going to swap into my 88 crx si. but the block is bad.

so i was surching around on the net and found this engine. the jdm d15b sohc vtec engine rated at 130hp. would this be a easy and a good swap into my car? and dont tell me to go and get a b16 and froget the d15, cus i dont have 2k laying around for a bseries swap and i need to get the d16a6 out becuase this motor is done for.

its pretty straight forward,,drops right in,bolts up to your stock tranny ,,just like swapping the z6..are you planning on converting to obd1 or staying obd0 with a chipped ecu?

d15b nice lil motor. It will have a bit more zip than d16a6 and you can get them cheap.

you dont have to chip it..it will run ok,,but of course it will run even better with the 1.5 vtec maps..its up to you

The d15b vtec uses a p08 but this motor can and will run on a p28. im running the same motor and a p28. the diff in the two are the maps are a lil more agressive on the p08 than on the p28. Everything bolts up like a any d-series engine. you need to remove the front driver side mount from the d15b and use ur stock one. All you need to do is take off the timing cover completely and take the whole mount off that is attached to the block. i would recomend on converting to obd1. This way you dont have to micky mouse the dizzy. Hope this helps.

i dont know if this matters but a p28 ecu uses a 4 wire 02 sensor and the d15b motor uses a one wire. well my d15b came with a one wire. so dont know if that will help

ima go on rywire.com and check it out right quick.

edit: i just went on there to see reqirerments and it says i will need a 4 wire 02 senser. and the d15b uses a single wire. is there a way to get around this problem?

sorry about all the questions

well it depends which ecu you are using if p08 keep the one wire. if p28 then you use the 4 wire o2 sensor i guess rywire offers the whole think now so just specify which ecu your using so they can add either 4wire or one wire o2 on the harness. and you can also buy the o2 sensor from them.

If you use the P28 you will need a 4 wire theres no way around that. Also when you do the swap you will have to extend the wires for the fan switch from the back of the block to the water neck at the thermostat on the D15B engine. If you need some help with the wiring let me know

I'm using a p08 and a 4 wire o2 sensor. I had it wired up before I knew you only neede a 1 wire. I've had no problems and I even passed my emissions test like a month ago. Runs fine with either.

Ya, the p08 dosent look for the heater... the heater consists of power and ground as well, thats 3 of the 4 wires. So ya, if you have a po8, with a 4 wire o2 it will just read the signal and you will be just fine.

I got a JDM D15B (non-vtec) from usedforeignengines.com (ebay "ask4crash").
540 delivered to my door -exactly where I wanted it put in only 3days from payment.
I have topped 60mpg
yes 60mpg

I have to stay at 55, but I verified it.

I get mid 50's around 60-65mph

I can get 40+ at 90mph

and it has the bawls to widen the eyes of stock si owners.

d15b's get a bad rap but dont deserve it.
they are big sleepers
