Default 5th Gen Prelude seats into a 4th Gen - HOW TO

Well I have had alot of people asking me how I put my 5th gen seats into my 92 Prelude S. So I thought I might as well do a write up so everyone knows. The reason I did this is because I couldn't find any nice 4th gen seats locally and I was able to get these for about 1/3 the cost of getting some decent 4th gens shipped to me.

Now obviously I used stock seats from a 99 Lude but this also means you could probably use any seat designed for the 5th gen as well.

Now I know my car is extremely messy and dirty, but ignore that for now. It is temporarly out of commision while I track down my fuel problem.

This is the drivers front left bolt (lines up perfectly and used OEM bolt)

This is the drivers front right bolt (again line up perfectly and used OEM bolt)

And the drivers rear left bolt - this one took a little modification to get to work. All I did was get a allen head bolt from fastenal with the same thread as the OEM bolt that the head fit inside the rail and a small washer. Drilled a whole through the rail and tightened the bolt. FYI - When I tightened this bolt tight my rail was a little sticky in this area for a while. It probably tweaked the rail form slightly. After a couple weeks of use sliding the seat forward and back it works great now.

And finally the drivers rear right bolt - this one wasn't quite as clean. I wanted to do like the rear right bolt and use an allen head, but the rail assembly lined up in a way that wouldn't allow it. So I just simply drilled a small hole in the floorboard. I used fender washers and locknuts on the bottom, then sprayed it with spray on truck bed liner as a rust preventative.

Repeat for the passenger side - it all works the same way.

Overall this was an easy mod-install that really didn't take much longer than a typical seat swap.

If anyone does this would they please post the sizes of the bolts and washers they used for future reference. Otherwise I will be pulling my seats soon for black carpet install and I will check mine then.

If anyone has any questions, comment, concerns just ask.

Thank you, I did this almost two years ago and just finally did the write-up. I use HT all the time to get info and help, I figured it was about time I contribute something.

No problem. Here you go. Again ignore the mess. And the pictures didn't turn out all that great either.

I haven't tried, but I kind of doubt it. The pics I have seen of them make them appear to be quite different from the 4th gens. I wouldn't mind trying though.

Can you not swap the rails from 4th gen seats? Atleast it would prevent drilling the rails and the floor board.

When I bought the seats that was my plan, but it turned out not to be possible. They mount totally different.

to me personally...
the 5th gen seats are less convenient because they dont have the releaser towards the top of the seat back like the 4th gens do

if you have a low 5th gen and throw stuff in the rear seat you know what im talking about..
the only releaser is the handle on the side unlike the 4th gens with both handle on the side and upper side

Nice work but why would you swap 5G seats into a 4G? 5th gen seats suck ***.

agreed. I hate mine. No lower back support and the butt pad is practically non-existent.

But in all actuality, the ride comfort is about equal. I guess given my 4th gens were pretty worn out though its prolly not a fair comparison. but I will say the way the 4th gen seats somewhat wrapped around my lower back was kinda nice.
