Default Type R muffler modified to fit a 2000 SI... kind of a how to do...

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum or not but here goes...
Picked up a type r axleback for the nice and clean look with a good oem sound..
Currently running Apexi mid pipe from an ek hatch which means it bolts right up to the header and takes out the cat..
First here is the muffler...

Here you can see that the muffler comes up just over 6 inches short from the bumper..

Next the tip cut off and muffler stuck back on the car..

Measured the length of how far i needed to extend the tip, some people may like it to stick out a little more and some may like it a little shorter, but i picked the length that i liked the best and it came like so...

now the tip being welded in a couple spots on the car just to get it in the right position..

Pulled back off the car to do the final wedling..
All wraped up and back on the car..

Now the sound is realy nice IMO.. very hard to hear inside the car.. but from the outside it has a realy nice tone to it.. It oddly reminds me of how a stock G35 or stock 350z sounds..
I know this isnt exactly a how to write up but its more or less just a few pics of the steps i took. But i am very happy with my choice to go with the ITR muffler.. and Extremely love the way it looks and sounds.. Let me know what you guys think..

I really like the stock look. I'm trying to put a stock muffler on my 93 EG Hatch with Greddy SP2 piping. Do you know if the axleback is interchangeable with stock. I can not stand the loud noise that the SP2 makes.

im pretty sure the tip was too long for a hatchback.. but i use to have a World sport II on my old hatch and was very happy with that.. i know that it bolts up and the hangers are in the right place.. maybe somehow shorten the tip??

Yeah a sound clip would be really nice, gettin on it from inside the car and out. If you record it email it to jorsher at gmail.com and I'll upload it and give you a link.

Looks good

Very nice

I had the ITR muffler on my old car with a Honda resonator and it sounded amazing. Wish I could put it on my new car

nice job! i'd have left it an inch shorter, but it looks good.

i'm running a jdm itr midpipe (longer than usdm) to usdm muffler on my 99 civic coupe. it tucks perfectly into the cutout, but leaves a little soot on my bumper. it's all good though and it sounds great. sounds just like my apex'i ws used to, but a little bit subdued at low rpms. i didnt cut or extend anything. my test pipe made up any midpipe length differences.

itr

hey jonas, how did yours get that close to the bumper?? with a longer midpipe is just going to push the entire axleback further back.. wouldnt this cause the pipeing to hit the trailing arm.. and even the muffler hangers would get pushed back and not be right.. all of these parts lined up perfect for me except tip was just 6 inches short.. a longer midpipe would put the tip closer but everything else would be screwed up..

Maybe you have a 4dr jdm type r muffler??

when i had my 3inch converted from a dc body it was short they had to cut and add a couple sections to get it ovver the trailing arm so that the tip would reach the rear lip.

i had picked up an itr catback that was cut in one place for shipping and i had rewelded. i had some problems with the weld so i found another itr midpipe on honda-tech. turns out they were different lengths, and the one on my car is the jdm version. the usdm version is shorter by 6" or so. it will not work with a stock cat and stock header. i got a flex pipe section and test pipe to make up the difference. and according to the kid i sold the usdm one to, the itr midpipe is apparently a direct bolt-on for other tegs.

cliff notes:
jdm itr midpipe is longer than usdm.
it won't bolt up to stock cat
it sits perfectly in my 99 rear bumper.

i still dont see how the midpipe length helped you.. the axleback was perfect as far as bolting up and the hangers.. so i dont see how a midpipe helped you and didnt throw off the rest of the stuff..

the midpipe length didnt help me. i had to run a shorter than cat-length test pipe. and the comparison of itr midpipes is just a FYI because i learned the hard way.
