Default Power wire for amp...Where can i put it through the firewall? 92 accord ex

Ok, I have no idea where to put the power wire through to connect to the battery on my 92 accord ex. There is one place directly under the fuse box on the firewall with a huger grommet but i cant get through it because its sealed. Is there another place i could get through/drill through?

Passenger side...right beneath the top edge of the carpet is a spare gromet...remove it and drill the size hole you need in it and then put it back in and thread your wire through. how about that for a run on sentence!!!

i dont want to bother you, but would you have a picture? i cant seem to find the spare grommet. Do i have to take off any covers to get to it besides the carpet?

pull the carpet on the pass side back underneath the glovebox... up in there you should see a rubber gromet. its rather large...like an inch across. If you dont find it...(my wifes is a 91 dx) pick any gromet and just drill a hole next to the hole already there... I have had luck in the past slipping the power wire (depending on the size) through the existing hole in some gromets. sorry...too late for pics and we are going to geauga lake in the morning.

yes, there is a grommet under the carpet below the glovebox and above the ECU, that should do the job

that's the one I used right above the ecu to run my power wire or if you want you can run it to the driver side through the grommet where all the wires go inside the car.

I find that a wire coat hanger is a good tool to thread a cable or to check if the hole goes all the way through.

I used a Socket Wrench Extender to shove it through my Firewall. It worked perfectly.

Hey I have a 1993 accord and I was wondering how you hooked up the amp. I think I found the grommet to get the power in. Since I'm bypassing the stereo head altogether I'm plugging in the constant power (white w/ yellow) into the RMS slot on my amp and the power directly from the battery. Without a head unit does this sound right? (obviously ground goes to ground and everythoing else). I've been struggling with my amp installation and this would be worlds of help, now that I found this site. Thanks in advance.

Im not exactly sure what you are saying. Do you want to power the amp free of the head unit? Or do you not have the head unit? if you want to power the ampo through the firewall this is how i did it:

Go to the passenger side under the dash. Pull away the carpet. As I recall, its under all the wire behind the black foam stuff. Search around for a round piece of the foam. It looks like someone cut this out but didnt open it. Its about 4cm in diameter. See what you find.

I figured it out. Now I've got power to my amp and my remaining task is to wire all the speakers (easily done) and hide all my wiring, did you just put it under the carpet next to the E-brake or did you go more by the door? Also since I'm riding without any stereo (no head unit OR empty box cells) I was wondering if you know of a place to get a simple black panel. I don't wanna put pockets where the head used to be, just a black surface to make it look slick, any ideas as to where to get this and/or what to improves with? Any help is appreciated.

get an installlation kit they usually have those covers to pop out for your HU but since you dont have one just leave them on.

hide hte wires under the plastic runner on the inside of ur door where the edge meets the carpet, its a plastic cover you'll see, it pops off. Make sure the battery wire is on the oposite side to the speaker wire tho

This guy knows what he is talking about. Its exactly as I did it. Do it properly and it looks professionally done. Also, the power wire always should be as far from the signal wire as possible, this gives you the least noise.

Well I admit I was sceptical at first, but you're right the runner popped right out on the first try. Now I have some more questions (you can probably tell this is my first time getting into my car like this): Does the triangular shaped panel pop out (and in) also? its located between where the runner used to be and the glove box. When you say separate the line are you referring to the battery power from the speaker wires or the battery power from the input (RCA) cables? I'm getting a bit of buzzing at the moment, so i wanna clear that up first and foremost. Also, did you go through the hassle of taking out the seat? If possible I want to avoid it, it just seems like its not worth it and I'm fine not having my amp professionally mounted. Thanks for all the help, you guys really know your stuff and no other site has been this hepful. thanks

ok, as for the amp if you're gonna put it in the trunk, you can screw it onto the wall depending on the weight of the amp, i dont know how heavy yours is, but it put one on each side of my DX and it held ok.

as for the wire, the wire im saying to keep seperate is wire touching the battery then going to your amp. there will be a lot of current going through which will cuase some buzzing like you're prob hearing. you can put the RCA cables, remote wire on one side of the car (drivers side) runner and then the battery wire on the passenger side under the runner cuz im pretty sure you went through the passenger side firewall, or thats at least what i did, i drilled a hole. in either case keep them apart. I THINK the panel can come out, but i think also you can pull it a little bit and slide the wire underneath and out of side instead of prying it off.

Also, as for the grommet on the firewall under the fuse box, just poke a hole through it big enough for the wire, use a pen or something that wont hurt a wire all ready in there, the EX has a lot of elec stuff but i think you could squeeze ur wire through there, it might be a pain but if u get a big enough gauge once its there its there and you wont have to mess with it again. A good rule is to do the extra work the first time so you dont have to go back and fix, upgrade, change later

Is passenger runner for power and stick shift mount (center panell) far enough to avoid noise? Did you wrap your connections in eletrical tape, crimp, or secure them a different way? I got the whole system going last night, heard a bit of buzzing and some faint crackling. I had too much extra wire from the power which explains the buzzing, but crackling?! Is that some iffy connection out there or what? I was SOOOOO close, then when I started moving my BARE wires I blew the ignition fuse. Its a quick fix, such an amateur mistake! I've even got a backup in the car but thats why I ask about your connections and the wire proximity. Thanks for any more help you can offer up. I've basically got it all in my head (tape up connections, replace fuse and separate power fromal other wires then search for crackling source), but I'm at work and I think they'd frown on doing superfluous car work on the clock.... but it is a friday.....

dont have exposed wires, and run them on the different runners on ur doors. the crackling might be your speakers, are the cabin speakers stock? the 92 ex speakers are crap, they may be blown
