Transmission won't shift!!! Need Help Quick!!!
I just swapped a B16 motor I had for awhile. It came from a XSi Integra. After completeion of the swap, motor started up and ran fine. One big problem, it will not shift into gear. I adjusted the clutch cable a dozen times and still no change. But it will shift if the engine is not running. But if the engine is running, its hard to put into gear and the car starts to move on its own without releasing the clutch. For example if I shove the shift lever to 1st, the car will jump forward and shut off. What can be the problem clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, or throwout bearing? My greatest fear is the transmission. Please help!

i had the same problem with my hatch it was the clutch set up it was no good mite wanna check that out well the tranny is out u should mite as well change that throwout bearing
Well, before I even put the clutch on I made sure that the new clutch was compatible with the tranny and flywheel. I lined up the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel right. The throwout bearing looked the same as the old one, so I put the new one in (it was tricky but I did it). The cable is adjusted right, so its been checked more than a dozen times. Heres another example, lets say I put it in gear (without engine started) then start the car up. The car automatically jumps forward and thats without releasing the clutch pedal yet.
If its the throwout bearing, I'm gonna kill myself!!!

It's GOT to be something with the clutch cable, fork, or pressure plate...are you sure the clutch was put in correctly? How good is the tranny...possibly the synchros are bad. When I start my car up, sometimes it won't go to first (from a stand still) so I let the clutch out just barely enough to let it start turning, and it'll shift into first. Or, I go to second, THEN to first to start out...again, just to line the synchros..
I think I'm sure. Isn't the clutch springs suppose to be facing out towards the pressure plate? Cause thats what I remember correctly. Damn, I hope its not the tranny.
Anymore help or suggestions to diagnose my problem?

You can always get into gear when the car is off, whether the clutch is engaged or not. Which means that your problem is almost certainly that clutch.
what clutch id you put in? if you mix and match from other manufacters some time they dont work(not the right clearances), chances are the clutch is the wrong one. look under the dash andd make sure the clutch pedle isnt bending or broken. have a friend push the clutch in and watch the tranny arm(were the cble connects)
if everything looks good id go for the clutch

The clutch pedal is fine and working good. I had a friend step on it and I watched the clutch arm on the tranny go up and down. The cutch is brand new, its a XTD clutch (Ebay, yeah I know!
) for a 92-93 Integra. I was thinking if this motor came off of a 92 Integra XSi, that it will need a 92-93 clutch setup. I know the 90-91 clutch is different. Well off to taking it apart!

I doubt putting the bearing in backwards would cause this but I would be curious to find out. I had the same problem when I did my swap but my problem was is that I did not tighten the clutch cable up enough so that it was tight.
First quesion, is there any resistance on the clutch pedal when you push it in?
Second, with the motor off, put it in gear and try to roll the car. (the car should not move) then push the clutch in and try again, if the car does not move its the clutch.
Let us know.
