Any interest in SouthWest Honda Challenge Series?
Hi All,
Just wanted to see if there is any interest in putting some Honda Challenge races toghether in the SouthWest with NASA. We have three dates here this spring in Arizona/Nevada with room for the group if there is interest. Let me know!
Thanks for the bandwith...

I see that it says SouthWest, I love the idea. Add a Sears Point and a Laguna, then I am in. Maybe if you add a Thunder Hill date you could get even more.

Hmmm.....can you get dates closer to the NW corner? So. Cal is a hike from Seattle. Been there, done that.
BTW, I'm sure there would be tons of interest if something was organized. I'd be there.

I know of at least 3 people that would do it if the series included events in Norcal. Like ITAcivic said, sears, laguna and thunderhill. Thunderhill would be the best bet. Alot cheaper and easier to get track time.

See you at Firebird next month!

I certainly wouldnt mind the extra track time and competition, as long as it didnt conflict with SFR SCCA schedule. NorCal NASA sems to race most of the same weekends. But another thing is that I'm not setup to do much race traveling yet. Need to get the van/trailer first.

For those of us who are close and interested, is there anything we can do to help make this a reality?

i bet it would help if we sent lots of harassing e-mails and called numerous times only to say, "i want SWHC! (SouthWestHondaChallenge) then hang up.

As much as I've enjoyed racing Hondas, and as likely as I might be to build one, I'd rather see a more inclusive sport compact series on the left coast. One that includes Sentras, Celicas, Eclipses, Proteges, Imprezas, Escorts, Cavaliers, etc., not dissimilar to the IT2 idea (http://www.2litre.itgo.com) talked about at ImprovedTouring.com. I think it would be more fun to see a variety of makes and models competing for a win. Maybe a bit more modern than IT, but more realistic than USTCC.

I would love to have someone stir up some action in that area of the country - there are too many of these great cars out there NOT racing. Get in touch if you have questions...

Absodamnlutely.
We've been running an orphan D16 Civic for three years in Nor Cal NASA and some So. Cal events. We only run the enduros (more of a team sport) but our car is in ITS in SCCA whereas it's IDENTICAL in performance to an ITA CRX. Go figure. So other than NASA, we have no series (and if we sell it, a prospective customer will have no other series but PS2 or E2) to run in.
I've been AMAZED how few Hondas race in the CA races. They're misrepresented as a proportion of the number of Hondas on the road by a considerable margin. I talk to these guys who spend $10,000 on their street Civics making them slow drag cars when they could have incredibly fast race cars and race for trophies instead of jail time.
Anyway, count us in...the rule structure for the east coast series seems to be about perfect...ANY Honda can find a class where it can be competitive.

Well guys it looks like there is some interest, so we have made the Honda-Challenge class available for our May 18-19 event at Phoenix International Raceway. You can register online now at http://www.nasaproracing.com, email me with questions... We are also offering a competition school if you need to get your license.
