Default test drove the new 2002 Si/SiR

Well not me exactly but my brother and all my close friends that are grease monkeys (mechanics) for Honda took one out yesterday and they said it is............................................
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my brother said he thinks that his SOHC Si hatch would even give it a good run for its money! well he doesn't know literally, but he says it sure feels like it would, and that its not worth whatever they are asking for it!

they all love the interior though they said the seats are really nice, and its a different yet cool change that is easy to get used to with the shifter in the center column......

anyways, my brother said this is what he has been waiting for to make a decision on what he is gonna do with his hatch, he said if the new SiR had any ballz he may think about selling his hatch and getting this thing and just dumping it on the floor. OR saving the waste of money and just pick up a cheap oil burning B18c and rebuild it the way he did mine and just chuck it in under the hood and keep the car until he gets married and has a kid....lol.

anyways all in all .........
THE ****** NEW CIVIC SiR IS A PIECE OF ****!!!!!!!
and from what i hear they are only gonna get shittier!

word through my friends at Honda / Acura Dealerships and other friends that are doing the Honda MAP program at Centenial is that
the only thing with any ***** in the future as for performance will be maybe the new Accord coupes coming out or the S2000 depending on how long that will be around.....as for everything else,...especially the CIVIC LINE, is just going to slowly but surely become more self maintainable ie.(less oil changing, less brake servicing) also be a threat to the Auto Mechanics Trade (ie. flat rate pay may be eliminated as per less amount of wokr involved with vehicles and more electronics and computer work) and that the CIVIC LINE "WILL" thats right become a FULL ECO-LINE OF VEHICLES half electric/half gas, basically exactly like their eco-hybrid they have now.

BUT we also heard of Honda coming out with a technology of "3 stage V-tec"? this alot of my friends don't know the whole story but its very interesting, but as for what vehicles its gonna be in or how the vtec works, as for if its for perfomance or more of an enviromental / emissions thing (which it probably is) we are unsure.

WELL ALL I KNOW IS....
for all you hybrid CIVIC performance heads, and DOHC CIVIC junkies like my self i guess......hold on to your projects or play with whats out there now from the year 2001 and earlier! build them, take care of them, and cherish them if you love this scene, because i really don't think performance will be the same,.....

you never know,...build as many as you can or all those with R's and SiR's keep those things MinT!!!! they all these things will be considered "the good ol days",....you guys know what i'm saying so i'll just jet now.......

i'm leaving to go to my brothers dealershi to see if i can get a spin out of that 7th gen SiR(ubbish) lol!!!!

peace!

Thats all bullshit.

My friend has the first Si that hit new orleans. I have had a chance to drive it and to be honest, i like it. The styling is a little focus/minivanie. But the interior is no joke. The seats are awesome, the materials they used on the inside make an RSX feel cheap. As for performance, the new si is just as fast(if you call it that) as the old one. The only difference is that the torque curve is much more useable. People will drive this car and think that it is slower, but not true. It is quieter, smoother, almost elegant to drive. The shifter is VERY natural, an I love it. As for the future of the civic, I don't think that they will phase themselves out, i just think that they are changing with the times. IF you think about it, all a civic has EVER been is an econo-box. They are designed to be lightweight, compact, highly efficient, economical cars. So what were you saying now? i almost forgot.

Another greasemonkey grapevine story.
"oh yeah! my honda mechanic says that the civic type-r will be here next month"

right

i knew i get this,..thats o.k though.... i feel just the same with kids that bought RSX's and say that they can punk off any DOHC hybrid with there new and improved re-designed VTEC power..... its all good though.

just got back from the Honda Dealership,....
just like everyone i knew said.....

interior i give 10 out of 10
exterior i give 7 out of 10
and last but not least,......
after i drove it for my self.....
performance i'd give a 5,

to me it drives like a slow B16
and a stock B16 is slow like *** already.

I test drove one on thursday and this IMO

INTERIOR (like the shifter and seats)
EXTERIOR (when I see it lowered with rims)
PERFORMANCE (It felt like I was driving my girls 01 coupe)you dont hear nor feel the VTEC kick in at all
Overall, not worth the money they're asking for 19k and 21k with alarm and C/F dash kit ,sunroof visor

Snatchback,
I do not want to reveal my sources but many of your points are valid and true. The 2 biggest threats against performance is=

1)Government....... mainly EPA. Pollution requirements are getting stricter and stricter, car manufactures must conform to the new standards or face not being eligible to sell their cars here. New car models will be less and less dependent on pistons and more and more dependant on computers There is a debate in congress on the new generation of obd3 where registration and smog checks will be sent electronically to the department of motor vehicles, no more hook-ups on smog no more dyno's etc, it will be ALL handled on board and sent in real time. If you ask me its ******* scary

2) Car manufactures do not want the aftermarket to succeed-Please no flames I know this for sure. OEM companies want these aftermarket companies to fail, and swollow them up after bankrupcy. The Japanese culture is very nepotistic, Japanese performance comapanies will do well i.e- Mugen, Spon, Nismo, TRD etc. However US counterparts DC, Crower etc will have a tougher and tougher time, they will always be pissed over WW2

Either way Snatchback is right, hold on to your 88-00, it will get tougher and tougher to fix up your ride. Our dear old govt. is slowly sucking away any autonomy or privacy we have left

I just got back from test driving the new Si. although its nice having some lowend torque i wont be trading in my car for one. The interior is much nicer than the previous version. I like the new shifter and the short throws are very noticable. performance wise you wont feel or hear the vtec cams changing over. actually the car is much quieter over all than the previous version. the extra torque seems to move the car quickly but the redline comes up very soon. (to soon imo) The engine compartment is very small. lets just say it doesnt look like its going to be fun to work on.

Overall the new Si (euro) is ok. I guess it depends on what your looking for. Imo the previous version is more fun to drive. I didnt buy the previous version thinking I was going to be blowing doors off my competition and i dont think this version will be either (unlike the commercials).

I myself, am getting kinda upset wtih honda.

while other companys are coming out with stuff like the WRX, Focus SVT (cheap and quick) that new turbo neon (due out next year), the RX-8, the new Z, next years 276 hp Lancer...Honda gives us a Civic Si POS for almost $20,000. or a close to $40,000 roadster or a $100,000 NSX which still has 1990 styling inside and out( I still love em though).

While all these other companies are coming out with cheap fast cars (stock) Honda introduces us to ****. In all honesty I've been devoted to Honda for the last 7 years (since I could drive) but lately I begining to want to change my ways...
