ATTN Optima 51R Yellow top owners!
For background see here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=973256
I recently had my second 51R yellow top fail (a very common problem).
I called Optima after they didn't respond to my emails. As soon as I mention 51R, this is what she told me:
If your battery is in the 2 year warranty period, and you have your original receipt, they will refund the base price of the battery (total cost excluding sales tax).
If your in the 2 year warranty period, but do not have a receipt (they can verify whether or not you bought it in the last two years by the code on the side of the battery), they will send you a replacement Optima, but it will be on of the larger ones (they've discontinued the 51R due to all the problems it's had).
So go get your money back!
I'm buying one of these instead (nearly identical specs):

SPV35, Designed for the Honda / Acura battery size. $110 bucks. I'm getting $134 back from Optima for their POS paper weight.

I have the yellow top bu tthe bigger oine and I haven't had any problems and I have had it now for like 5 years. What's the problem with those 51r's cause I do have one of those too but never used it. My friend gave it to me cause he took it out of his civic when he sold it. He didn't have any problems with it either.
I just bought a new battery for my Integra at Costco after shopping around. Comes with a 100 month warranty. Kirkland brand (that's their house brand) made by Johnson Controls, a major battery manufacturer. Only $37.

Good deal, but I'm looking for another AGM style battery. Also, Optima is a subsidiary of JCI as well.

The title reads "ATTN Optima 51R Yellow top owners!". If you don't have a 51R this doesn't apply to you.

I've had my 51r for about a year and a half and it's been fine. I guess time will tell. I know the regular yellow tops are great and very few people have problems with them. That's why I bought mine.
Got my new battery installed.
It's an Interstate AGM. It's got a 50 AH reserve, vs the Optima's 41.
It's also more CCA, and weighs a good 10-15 pounds more as well. Never realized how inefficient the spiral-cell packaging design is.
This one is just a little fatter then the optima, but it still fit in the factory tray with a little elbow grease.
This battery is primarily used in motorized wheel chairs, but hey, it works! Maybe now I can park in handi-cap stalls. w00t!

Not bad pics for a camera phone...Sanyo MM-9000 rocks!
