CALLING ALL TUNERS! Difference between Hondata, uberdata, crome pro, neptune, Greddy Emanage?
I've searched and searched and could not really find any good reasons why people prefer a certain type of program. If anyone has some time and if they are familiar with the different software programs could they please break down each individual program and list their positive and negative features. I am sure that there are a lot more people out there that would also like to know this information. Please only post what you think if you are familiar with the software and use it quite often. Thank you.
The differences vary in the features and how you manipulate the fuel and timing cells as well as any other options that that particular engine management may have. You can download all the freeware stuff and look at it yourself and see what options it has.

you choice might boil down to what your tuner is familar with instead of what you want. unless you live in an area where all the different programs can be tuned by a reputable guy. notice i said reputable. you don't just want anyone tuning your car. a good tune needs a good tuner. tune+good tuner= reliable motor.
so your saying that they can sell a Hondata S200B for $600 and i will do the same thing that crome will do? i am confused? or can you just use whatever and it will all run just as good as long as the tuner tunes it good and knows wtf he is doing?
I will most likely try tuning my own car. I was thinking of going with hondata s300 so I could hook it up straight to my laptop. I have heard a lot of good things about the s300, but I just have not heard too many things about all of the others.
go with hondata s200 or s300, msot tuners are more familiar with it and it works really good. untuned my car pushed out 194 but tuned with hondata s200, it pushed out 208. real wheel hp

Any good tuner will be able to use any of the major tuning softwares. From what I've seen as an owner and user of Hondata S200, Uberdata, and Crome Pro they are all based around a similar interface design. Even if a tuner isn't familiar with your exact software he should be able to sit down and have the basics of it figured out within a few minutes given that you have it configured correctly. The only problem is any extra devices needed that he might not have on hand or be familiar with (say the ostrich emulator) but that is something you should have set up correctly to begin with when it comes to any of the DIY engine managements.
If you want to stay cheap go with uberdata or Crome. Out of those two Crome seems to be the most well supported at the moment. I orginally tuned my turbo hatch with uberdata but after toying around with my recent Crome Pro purchase I believe I'll be doing a retune here shortly.
Both offer TONS of features including real time programming.
Oh and BTW forget the Greddy Emanage. It shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Hondata, Crome or Uberdata.

I am building my turbo project and it came down to what tuning i needed and i came up with about $300 for a used Hondata S200B unit and around $250 to have it retuned. so thats around $550-600. My friend has an P28 ECU with Crome Pro he will sell me for $125 and i will just have to have it retuned. and then after i get that ECU, i can sell my current P28 and come out even. My Question is would it be better to just go the Crome Pro route, or save for the Hondata?

Your friend can't just give you crome pro with the ECU. It's a software that he should have on a laptop. Crome Pro has to be registered with the computer you are using it on.
Here is what you need to have a Crome package that is comparable to Hondata.
Crome Pro- $150
Ostrich emulator for real time tuning- $165
USB datalogging cable-$30
Total-$345
Please note that you have to get your ECU chipped for all of the main tuning softwares. That usually runs around $50.
Remember the DIY engine managements are for people that want to tune it themselves. That's where a lot of the money savings come from. Not to mention that with Crome or Uberdata you can tune every car you own without having to buy anything else. If you want to have Hondata on all of your cars then you have to go buy it for all of them and that can get expensive.
