Default ShifterKart project

Now that its starting to warm back up I've been thinking about finishing up my kart project. It started out as a rolling frame and a motor i bought from some dude in florida. Anyways I thought i'd share some pics of the progress from last night. feel free to offer advice or constructive criticism. This is my first attempt at this level of fabrication.

nice choice for a motor. the torque of a ducatti is gonna be nuts on a kart.

It could be a Margay, They were known for using that style front end. It is a offset Kart for sure designed for Oval tracks. Looks like some fun, The engine is a Great Choice.

Karts are cool, I am a Two time WKA national Champion!

The LS engine is kinda a Large engine for a Kart, Your best bet would be a Two Stoke MX engine.... They are Ultra Light in weight and very powerful for there size!

everyone asking me "why do get a 1100" or "dude, get an busa motor" .....but the way i see it the with small diameter of the kart tires im gonna need those extra thousand rpm. besides a friend of mine dyno'd his 98 xz-6 with a jet kit and slip on can at 110hp. thats plenty for this thing.

btw, would you say you are 100% sure its an oval frame? i've seen purpose built oval frames and they had a much larger offset. its not a 1/4 midget frame right?

Well Not 100% sure, But if you notice the Twin Tubes on the Left side and they have the adjustments for tighten the Frame on that side, It has a little bit of offset and that Style Steering Wheel is Real common with the Oval racing crowd (Dirt and Asphalt)

Either way It will be fine, Just because its an offset Kart does not mean it can only turn left, That's all based on tire stagger/size and some other factors!

Good luck, eric

thats cool rainman. motorcycles are crazy. ya karting is decent. my dad owns his own shop for karting **** is to crazy on the wallet 10k for a 125cc shifter kart setup ready to go. well for my wallet at least.

i was also thinking of taking a d15 auto motor setup and running that on a custom frame. would be a nice kart to mess around on. also use the hubs off the honda so i could run steelies out back. would be a nice burnout machine. haha.

is this going to be used for off road use? i ask cause u have alot of distance betewwn tires with alot of weight with u on the cart. normally it wouldent matter but u have a flat chasse cart.

karting is the ****. i got a briel shifter & crg direct drive. it just a shame everyone hasnt drove a real kart.

thats gona be fast. if its gona take turns id make it wider... cause it is gona be very very fast. also i know its still early but i would reinforce the whole chassis cause it looks like its gona twist under a heavy turn.

The thought of making it wider has definately crossed my mind. My only concern on that would be the axle. unless i find a longer axle widening the frame wont benefit me near as much, besides providing a wider footprint up front. with all the weight in the back thats where i would need my width.

The blue is the idea on the x/y axi and the red is on the z axis of the frame. where the red would be tying into the motor mounts and tying to the frame fairly staggered for rigidity. only thing is where the yellow is. how to tie into the front half of the kart without getting in the way of the driver.

in the yellow circle i would bring the red line forward to the front of that brace to distribut the load a little more( both sides. u dont want all the load going to one place on a cart. also across the back of the cart but 1 more cross brace between the 2 blue lines from corner 2 corner. ( make sure it meets up with the cross brase going across under the motor , u get most strenght that way.) aslo do some braseing up front from tie rod 2 tie rod. other than that it i think u have it coverd
