Do I have a bad distributor?
My wife's friend had her 93 Civic 1.5L just refuse to fire all of a sudden. She took it to a shop and they said it would cost her first born and that it was the distributor.
Should I just swap the distributor?
Could it be the coil instead?
Do Distributors really just go out instantly like this?

I do have the same motor in my Civic so I could plug and play but I hate to do that. I do have a Haynes and a Voltmeter as well as Electrical knowledge. I appreciate any help or sugjestions this site rocks!!!
TIA, Zach

Is it making a clicking noise?
my suggestions are
Save your self alot of time and money...
Get New Spark plugs/plugs and a new distributor... that could be the easy way but costly....

My Friend said it may just be the pickup how do you test the P/U ???
I assume CX is a code I need to look for on the distributor itself to see if it will work?
Do you guys go oem on plug wires and caps, I went aftermarket and had my last cap go to shiz in about 12K, hence I went to the dealer and bought a oem cap and rotor for full retail.
I will let you know if it is a CX. Thanks all.

Got it!
it was the ign. coil inside the dist. Found a new one at NAPA for $74 little bit better than the $647.38 that she was quoted to put in a new dist.

rarely it is the actual distributor that is the problem. many time it is the ignition coil, which on hondas, it is internal. shops now just replace the part altogether, rather than repair the faulty part. its costs the customer more (obviously) but it is quicker for the mechanic to do. therefore a high turnover rate.
