Default Installed Tanabe Ultra Medallion, now getting black smoke. suggestions?

Hey Guys, I just installed the Tanabe Ultra medallion about a week or so ago. I love it. But now i'm noticing some black smoke when I rev. I can't notice it while i'm driving, but if i have a friend rev it i'll see little puffs of black smoke from the exhaust. I'm also noticing that my rear bumper is getting dirty a lot faster with little black specs all over.

I've done a little bit of searching but can't really find any answers. Some people say that happends when the engine is running too rich. Is there anything else I can check? I've heard some people to check the spark plugs. What would I be looking for if i do?

Aaaalso I've been noticing a quiet gurgle/clicking sound from the front (it was doing that before i installed the exhaust). I haven't looked into it much yet, but it almost seems like it's coming from the alternator. Any ideas on what that could be? Could it be contributing to my black smoke problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

it can be the finish on the inside of teh exhaust, when they are new they some times have small amounts of smoke or funny smell...if it goes away in a week or two it is prolly this

I second this. When I put on my WS2, it smoked and smelled funny (not like oil or coolant or anything) for about a week. I figured it was just something burning off on the inside, and it turned out that it was. It went away and I haven't smelt it since.

i traded exhausts with a guy who had a Greddy PE on for probably four years or so. my bumper just gets dirty quick now as well, but i figure it's the result of having aftermarket (and sort of old, at that) exhaust. get the sponge/bucket out more often, i guess.

seafoam is about $6 at napa/parts store. take about 1/3 put in your oil crank. 1/3 in your gas. turn car on and put 1/3 thru your pcv valve to go into all cylinders. turn off and let set for 15 minutes. turn on rev high. watch the white smoke fill the air!

yeah...they tend to say put it through the brake booster hose...because its the biggest vacuum hose....takes about two people one to pour it in while you keep it revving. Let it run for awhile and then shut if off for about 15-20 minutes come back rev it up, and take it for a spin shift at higher rpms (actually pretty fun cause it leaves like smoke screens) but it cleans out all the carbon buildup on the vavles and in the cylinders.

also black smoke is a sign of either to much fuel or alot of oil consumption...but try seafoam see how that works.

Back to the topic of the car spitting little black dots on the back of your car...My car does that too...I know it is from oil out of my exhaust (hasnt done it lately, because I have an aftermarket exhaust now and it sticks out a little farther than the stock) but How can I clean these spots off...It is obviously oil, But I cant seem to find anything that will get it off.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it turns out.

As for the oil spots, i don't have a problem getting them off with a normal wash.. might take a little elbow grease. If it's really caked on there some WD-40 should get it off pretty easy... but i don't imagine that's good for the wax/clearcoat/paint....

a claybar should take off any carbon thats been sitting on your paint for awhile. Mothers and ClayMagic both work well - just make a quick trip to the local auto parts store.

the black smoke is excess fuel, I got that when I installed my ws2. All ludes are tuned rich from the factory and the reduced back pressure is sending different readings to the MAS sensor, putting extra fuel to the chambers
