spare Block cracked question
hey guys i pulled an engine out of a parts car i bought a few months ago and am planning on building another f22 on the side w/ some goodies. after i tore down the block i noticed that the block was cracked on the drivers side where the car had been in a wreck,
i was curious what your input on the block is as to whether i should just have it rewelded or just buy another bare block. other than that little crack its in pretty good shape.
looks to me like it can just be tig welded and decked at the top. i inspected it and didn't notice anymore cracks other than the obvious big one. It looks like its a good distance from the water jackets.
here's some pics and lemme know what you think.

that does look pretty narrow at the top of the block there, but there isn't a whole lot of force exerted at that point.
if you know a GOOD reputable tig welder you should be in good shape if you have that welded and decked, then re-tap that motor mount hole. if you don't know a good welder you may want to pass on that.

whoa that's different looking around the 2-3 cylinders, is that an F22A?

well i do have access to a few good tig welders around here.
my only worry would be that when the machine shop goes to press in the block guard it might crack it more. i don't have any experience w/ block guards so i wasn't sure how much force is exerted on the block when pressing in a block guard.
oh btw the block isnt an f22a its an f22b2 block

It's gonna be a real crap shoot welding that back on, considering you'll be welding that whole piece around the edges only the center portion will have no strength what-so-ever. You'd have to have the deck reground because of the localized heating and to get everything flat again. In addition, the area welded shouldn't have anything bolted to it.
It could be worth the effort, but have it checked with a fine toothed comb. There may be other cracks you havn't seen yet.
