Default Thule ski rack on CRX.

i scored big time tonite. i went jogging and its trashday tomorrow and saw a complete kit for a thule ski rack next to someones trash. so i went back and picked it up, it has EVERYTHING, including the keys for the locks and the fit kit for what i think is an 86 accord, at least thats what the included instruction page says!

so, has anyone tried to put a thule kit on the crx? does it even work? is ther enough roof length for it to work? thule.com seems to say theres an option for it, but i want to hear from anyone who has tried. let me know.

We thought about fitting my buddy's Thule rack from his 95 EX coupe on his CRX, but the "gutters" in the roof are a lot thinner on the CRX than the EG's, and the little pegs/stands wouldnt fit down in there. That's about as far as we went There may be a way to make it work, although we couldnt make it work.

The short roof line is really gonna come into play. Even the coupe barely had a roof long enough.

Best of luck though, I'm sure there's some way to fit it, and I'd definitely like to see it!

I ordered these parts a year ago: http://www.thule.com/frames.asp?id=1884 .

I'm going outside now to fit them on my EE8. Let's hope they fit

I think the onlything you need is a mounting kit for your car. The rest might be universal. I used "Kit 77" (the middle one in the picture).

The parts:

Look how pretty!

oh yeah, forgot to update the kit worked great these past two weekends. went to big bear and mammoth respectively. the best thing is that i got it all for free!!!! locks and keys and carriers and all. i already had the #77 fit kit in storage, for some reason i bought it a long long time ago. except i couldnt fit the two carriers across like you did, but i can already carry one or two boards + 1 set of skis with just one carrier, with a capacity of only 2 ppl, i dont need any more

I've got a skibox on the roof of my crx.
Only the mountingplates are different. The mounting method is the same as yours.

This is the last day on holiday. It rained a lot, that why we turned to home.

I used to have on on my old Civic back in high school.

The car would have a really hard time going up the mountain because of the added wind resistance from my snowboard! LoL. Man that things was a gutless wonder. Haha.

I feel bad for any CRX that has any rack/storage compartment on top of it. But way to go for using your CRX to the fullest . Hope everything works/fits properly.

I moved the front ones a bit over the mount. Hope it is still secured

But I just realized I might have a problem. I believe there's approx. 50cm between the carriers... and my bindings are like 70cm apart (tip to tip)

HA! i didnt even think of that! i guess thats what makes it work.

yeah, with my board, you stagger the carriers and bindings. but its still secure. it was just long enough distance to fit ski bindings too, so it works fine. but i guess that may depend on the bindings.

[i should have taken pics]

When I used to run my Yakima, I put the bike mount on the outside of the tower and the hatch goes up all the way. Always ran it like that and never had any problems; drove all the way to Cabo San Lucas and back that way. The only problem happened when I drove under a cabana at the beach and forgot the bike was up there - ripped the bike right off the mount and it was dangling at the back with that back tire buckle still engaged on the channel. Good times though!

That Thule tower looks like it allows to retain use of the sunroof. That's nice! I had to modify my Yakima a little to get the sunroof to clear the tower.

yeah i have no problem opening the sunroof, except the wind turbulence was too much.
