Default Cleaning headlights and taking off Scartches

Ok I'm bout to clean up and take off the scratches on my headlights and just wanted to make sure everythings good first...

1. Wet sand with 600 grit horizontally
2. Wet sand with 800 grit vertically
3. Wet sand with 1000 grit horizontally
4. Wet sand with 1500 grit vertically
5. Use orbial buffer to apply 3m rubbing compound over headlights
6. Use orbial buffer to apply wax over headlights

Is that it? Or what else do I need to change/add.

Here's what they look like now...

No it's not out of focus, just hazy

you don't have to use that low of a grit unless your head lights has some deep rock chips or scratches. 800 and up should be fine. It's also best to go diagnol instead of horizontal and vertical and you don't have to change the direction you're sanding when you get to a high grit. You can go sand / or \ using the same grit.

here's another thread that was just posted today.

So should I just wetsand in one direction? The scratches on the driver side is sorta deep. You can feel it if you move your finger over it.

don't have to go one direction, you can go both directions diagnolly, but it's best not to go up or down.

I made just horizontal passes when I did mine.

This is what I did. The only change I've made since then has been a pass with 2000 wet grit to really smooth it out. They look even better now.

I just did this to my headlights. They came out amazing.

99aznaccord was even impressed. He commented on how crappy they looked when he got them in the mail.

This is exactly what I did, and recommend:
1. Use 1500 grit wet sand paper to remove the clearcoat. I used one sheet for each headlight.
2. Completely rinse, and dry the headlights.
3. Grab a bottle of plastic polish (I used Mother's plastic polish), and put it on a rag, and start scrubbing. Note: I bought a buffer just for this reason. 6" Craftsman for $25 from Sears.
4. When the headlights start to clear up, follow up with a final wipe with a clean section of cloth.
5. Sit back, and enjoy your work.

Or you can just send me $75, and I'll take care of everything. :D

My handy work. (I'm going to go over them with some 2000 grit wet sand paper just to make them perfect)

My headlights looked like crap before all that. Tons of scratches, and the clearcoat was peeling off.

If you look closely, you can see some little blemishes. Towards the right of it, there are patches of clearcoat still on there.

I have to see what other pics I can dig up.

The only problem right now is they tend to get a bit hazy after a few weeks, but some polish brings them back to life. I might decide to wax them, or just throw a coat of clearcoat back on.

It's only on the outside. You can feel where it's hazy.

I just fixed all the scratches on my headlights the other day.

Wetsand them with 600 grit, then 1200, then 3000. Wiped them off and put 2 coats of sikens clear on them. They look brand new now

Well, you don't really have to. When you start polishing or buffing the headlights on the car, you'll polish the paint around the headlights also. So it wouldn't be damaging anything. If you don't want to touch the paint on your car than yeah, take the headlights out.
