i HATE timing belts.

Whatever, here is mine... does the slack look ok? The exhaust side and intake side of the belt have very little slack. I turned the motor over by hand about 7 times and everything is still at TDC, no teeth skipped.

Hows she look?

i think i know what your problem is, timming belts are easy when the motor is out of the car, this is what you need to do. put the crank at tdc (top dead center) im sure you done it before. This is the tricky part, the motor spins to the right side from the intake cam, to the water pump to tensioner to crank, you want to make sure that the tension between the crank and the exhause cam is minimal, you should be able to twist the belt a lil less than half a turn, the exhaust cam gear should be put at tdc, on top of the cams , there some cam caps it should have a hole like the size of a nail , make sure you can see through it and youll see that in the cam theres a hole, when you can see both of the hole's ur at tdc, if you try to put your belt like that its not going to align you need to move the belt about half tooth back and put the belt on the exhaust cam gear, next on the intake cam your probably going to have to do the same thing go counter clock wise like 1/2 tooth until the belt snaps into place,then you put the rest of the belt,and with a socket i think its a 12 mm for the cam gear move it clock wise just so in between the intake cam gear and exhaust cam gear is tight then just do the same twist the belt for like 1/2 a turn (between crank and exhaust cam)and tight the tensioner do no pull on the tensioner the spring on the tensioner should tighten the belt enough, after tensioner is tighten spin the motor and thension should be alot less than that if not let me know

lol well... I think I understand what you wrote, even with the two whole periods you used

a few things.... I used the holes you are referring to, I put pin punches into them to insure TDC throughout the whole timing belt install. The picture you see is actually me pushing down with one of the punches.

Are you saying my tension isnt enough? I *think* you are trying to tell me that if everything is not at TDC then the belt wont go on correctly? Instead you are suggesting I move the intake gear back 1/2 a tooth, then attempt to install the belt, and finally to move the gear back the 1/2 tooth to get the belt on correctly.

Does this make sense to anyone else? Does my tension look correct?

the holes in the cam caps i told you to punch them cause some times they have oil and you cant see the hole in the cam, you have to turn the cam gear a little bit back , its like half a tooth then you put your belt. once the belt is on, you turn the cam gear to the oppisite direction(forward the direction the motor spins) so it could be at tdc and get minimal tension on that side. what im saying is if you lock every thing at tdc and try to put your belt like that its not going to have alot of tension. Im sure you put everything at TDC, do the same for the intake cam gear. then you tie the tensioner, if theres something you didnt understand let me know and ill try to explain it as best as i can to you

try this, if everything is already at tdc, losen up the tensioner bolt and turn the crank in the direction that the motor spins, until all the belts are tight, tight the tensioner bolt, thats probably the easiest way, that should get rid of your tension
