thermostat? radiator? water pump?
here we go...
i was coming home from work and i noticed that my car was running hot and almost to the point where it would be over heating...so i pulled over and popped the hood. i touched the radiator cap and it wasnt even warm, so i put a towel over it and opened it up a little to releave some pressure. well while i was doing this you could here the coolant start to travel through the lines and it started to heat up the cap. i started her back up and she was at normal temperature, and being that i was about 30-45 minutes away from home i had no other choice but to drive it. all the way home the needled moved from normal temp to hot, then back down again. it seemed like it was going with my rpm's...the higher rpm i went the higher the temp gauge went. it reads noraml at idle.
can anyone help me out and give me some suggestions on what my problem could be...
thanks...

Dam dude that sucks. In all honesty I would suggest a basic flush or something. See what happens unless you've already done that. Bump for suggestions.
nope, i havent done a flush yet...it just happened to me last night so i havent had time to do anything... plus im leaving to the ship on thursday so i guess ill have to work on it when i get back from this boat det...

if theres still presure in ur cooling system when u poped the cap open then that means your cap is still sealing right, sounds alot like a thermostat problem...i would try changing out the thermostat and flushing your cooling system while ur at it, thermostats are real cheap so even if thats not the problem think of it has preventive maintenance. if that doesnt solve the problem then start looking towards your water pump, but lets hope not, that starts to get more expensive and labor intensive, atleast more then the thermostat anyway</TD></TR></TABLE>
i hope its not my water pump...i just put a new one in about 4-5 months ago...

when i got home i waited a second for the engine to cool and then i checked the coolant level and it was full.

Exactly dont make the mistake I did and open that **** when its hot a few years ago I almost went blind. Ricardo I would just give it a flush, OR if you want to be real safe take it to Triple A Radiator here in Fresno and have them do a Rod-Out for like 50bucks more. It definitely wouldnt hurt to get a new Thermostat. When you get back that is

Cool. Good to see you pamper your car.

Sorry to bring this **** back from the dead, but I'm having the same issue coupled with a loss of power when the car overheats?
Did you fix it? Problem?

Really sounds like you just had an air pocket around the heater core or something, I'd just top it off while it's running and make sure the T-stat is open so you can be sure there isn't any air left behind

I spent over an hour with the car running waiting for air pockets to surface and come about. The fan cycled at least half a dozen times and the car was well up to operating temp. Still overheats.
