Default 03 Accord radio light

Hi,
I have a 2003 Accord EX with the factory 6 disc changer/climate control console. Recently, all of the lights went out in the console. The stereo and climate control still work fine, but you can't see the radio display or any of the lights on the climate control buttons. I checked every fuse in the fuse box in the car and under the hood. All are fine. My local Honda dealer said that this was a rare problem, but the entire unit would have to be replaced to remedy this problem...at a cost of over $900. Of course, the warranty expired about 2,000 miles before this problem came up. Have you heard of this? Is there a way to get the lights back without replacing the entire unit? Thanks for your help.

Many of us with 7gen accords has had the same problem. It's a common problem and it won't cost you a thing. I had mine replaced at 62,000 miles, so you won't have a problem. The only thing they tried to get me on is labor. I wouldn't pay it. I told them I spoke with American Honda and the radio should be replaced at no charge, because it's a common problem with that particular radio. So just take it in and don't let them talk you in to paying for labor. That labor money is going into somebodies pocket that works there...
