Default JRSC install, now motor BOGs after 100 miles..... PLEASE HELP.

If anyone could shed some light, or loan me some parts to test on my car, I would really appreciate it.

(11:47 AM 12/22/2005) freakyty2: whats up man is stutters but is it smocking. It could be running rich and lean out at some point. When you push the gas peddle it runs good then sputters and then go or what?
(12:30 PM 12/22/2005) STREETWERKZ: it sputters at all times now.

i have to hold the gas just to keep it running.

(12:31 PM 12/22/2005) STREETWERKZ: compression is above 180 on all cylinders

spark plugs are one step colder than stock and gapped at .30

oil is clean, took the valve cover off ( not the head ) and everything looks fine.

new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter (all OEM honda, all under 100 miles)

DJRiot619 (12:28:48 PM): i really think the fuel pump went bad.
DJRiot619 (12:28:53 PM): I HOPE.
FREAKYTY2 (12:29:56 PM): well what is ti doing when you gas it
FREAKYTY2 (12:29:58 PM): bogs
DJRiot619 (12:30:25 PM): yeah
FREAKYTY2 (12:31:21 PM): either the fuel is cutting or it can be the map sensor
FREAKYTY2 (12:31:27 PM): at idle will it rev up
FREAKYTY2 (12:31:37 PM): but not under a load
DJRiot619 (12:31:59 PM): nope, it will die at idle.
FREAKYTY2 (12:32:55 PM): what you do is take the return line and add on to it and run it in a kind of big jug make sure its clean so you can add the gas back if it runs then the fuel shuts off and it dies then the fuel pump is running then shutting off
DJRiot619 (12:33:51 PM): yeah, i was gonna block off the fuel return line, to see if anything happens.
FREAKYTY2 (12:34:05 PM): no fool you trying to cause a fire
FREAKYTY2 (12:34:18 PM): if ti cant burn that fuel it has to go somewhere
DJRiot619 (12:34:35 PM): thats what revolt told me.... HAHA take some vice grips and pinch the return hose.
DJRiot619 (12:34:37 PM): LOL
DJRiot619 (12:34:43 PM): i'll do your trick
DJRiot619 (12:34:46 PM):
FREAKYTY2 (12:34:56 PM): gripping it only turn the fuel pressure up high
FREAKYTY2 (12:35:14 PM): stoping it completely is a different story
DJRiot619 (12:35:43 PM): ok, so how do i know if the pump went bad?
DJRiot619 (12:36:27 PM): I also switched out the 450s and put the stockers back in..... same thing.
FREAKYTY2 (12:36:49 PM): hook that hose up off the fuel rail return and if it stop pumping cause its constant once the cars running. If it stops after a few seconds and the car dies its usually the pump or some causing the pump to shut down
FREAKYTY2 (12:36:59 PM): doesn't matter what injector
DJRiot619 (12:37:22 PM): ok cool, thanks.
FREAKYTY2 (12:38:01 PM): last time mine was going dead you know the air flow sensor in the intake manifold was burnt out
FREAKYTY2 (12:38:14 PM): so might want to pop that out and see if it has mushrromed
DJRiot619 (12:38:18 PM): LOL, i have two extras.
FREAKYTY2 (12:38:47 PM): if you plug it up with anything other than the right sensor plug it blows out instanly
FREAKYTY2 (12:39:14 PM): do you have any check engine lights
DJRiot619 (12:39:17 PM): this is weird...... it ran REALLY good for 100 miles yesterday, no problems..... jsut sometimes the idle was low, or sometimes it was high.
DJRiot619 (12:39:24 PM): NO check engine lights
FREAKYTY2 (12:39:49 PM): did it go up and down at idle
FREAKYTY2 (12:39:59 PM): Well the intake sensors not bad
FREAKYTY2 (12:40:04 PM): it shows a light
DJRiot619 (12:40:17 PM): sometimes it went up and down at idle....
DJRiot619 (12:40:26 PM): but most of the time it was a contant idle....
DJRiot619 (12:40:37 PM): either low (below 1000)
FREAKYTY2 (12:40:38 PM): so now does it run for a little bit then shut off
DJRiot619 (12:40:52 PM): or high, (a little under 2000)
DJRiot619 (12:41:00 PM): yeah, it runs, then dies.
DJRiot619 (12:41:08 PM): if i give it gas, it sputters
FREAKYTY2 (12:41:18 PM): u got an extra map sensor
DJRiot619 (12:41:48 PM): acts like it wants to die, and i give it mregas and it revs to 3k and stays sputtering.
DJRiot619 (12:41:55 PM): i dont have an extra map.
FREAKYTY2 (12:42:20 PM): you might want to try the map cause that will cause it to do that **** alsop
FREAKYTY2 (12:42:22 PM): also
DJRiot619 (12:42:35 PM): wont that cause a CEL, though?
FREAKYTY2 (12:43:02 PM): sometimes depends on if it goes completely bad and not work at all
DJRiot619 (12:43:07 PM): hmm
DJRiot619 (12:43:12 PM): i'll try
FREAKYTY2 (12:43:20 PM): if its still reading some it wont
DJRiot619 (12:43:45 PM): i'm wondering if i jsut swap the stock manifold back on, and take off the supercharger what it will do.
FREAKYTY2 (12:43:47 PM): it revs but sputters at what RPM
DJRiot619 (12:43:54 PM): ALL rpms
FREAKYTY2 (12:44:05 PM): how old is dizzy
DJRiot619 (12:44:24 PM): not sure, but the 2 owners before me took very good care of it.....
DJRiot619 (12:44:30 PM): everything was new when i bought it
DJRiot619 (12:44:49 PM): first owner worked for HKS, second owner worked for HONDA.
FREAKYTY2 (12:45:01 PM): ignitor can be an issue when you sputter at rpms
DJRiot619 (12:45:25 PM): (good thing i work for honda, so i can get all this **** for cheap)
FREAKYTY2 (12:45:31 PM): if you were close i could roll over but you far
FREAKYTY2 (12:45:38 PM): Hey you at work
DJRiot619 (12:45:40 PM): yeah, i moved to orange county.

JRSC 8psi
d16a6
obd0 B16 throttle body
aem short ram
hks filter
other parts on motor are
IACV from 92-95 civic EX ( ran with both IACVs, stock and this one )
IAT sensor from 92-95 civic EX ( ran with both )
92-95 civic EX fuel rail
OBD0 B16 FPR
jackson FMU
ran DSM 450 injectors, 92-96 prelude injectors, and stock CRX SI injectors (runs exactly the same on all of them )
ran with both a pm6 and pg7 ECU with SAFC tune for fuel (really need someone to tune a PM6 with crome or turbo edit.... PLEASE!!!!!!)
one step colder than stock NGK plugs, gapped to .30
COMPRESSION is at 180 or above on all cylinders
oil looked clean, and is fresh, maybe 500 miles
took off the valve cover, everything appeared normal.

THIS CAR RAN VERY GOOD FOR ABOUT 150 MILES...... including 100 miles yesterday.

in and out of boost, even raced and beat an S2000 on the freeway six times.

please tell me this is the fuel pump.

dont flame, i've heard it all before.

Outsane (1:14 PM 12/22/2005):check your TPS and Igniter..
when it sputters does it smell super rich..
what do your plugs look like?
STREETWERKZ (1:23 PM 12/22/2005): TPS is good.
STREETWERKZ (1:24 PM 12/22/2005): it does kinda smell rich.
STREETWERKZ (1:24 PM 12/22/2005): plugs are pitch black after only 100 miles
Outsane (1:29 PM 12/22/2005): sounds like your running too rich..
Outsane (1:29 PM 12/22/2005): black is usually rich..

Outsane (1:30 PM 12/22/2005): unless they are covered in oil.

STREETWERKZ (1:30 PM 12/22/2005): i switched back to stock injectors... same thing, bogging.
STREETWERKZ (1:30 PM 12/22/2005): no, not oil. like a carbon/soot

thank you.

so far the answers i have got are.....

broken valve ( checked compression, above 180 all across, and even )
bad fuel pump.... ( sounds like it whines a little when i prime it before starting )
bad ignitor
bad map sensor ( no check engine light )
bad tps sensor ( no check engine light )

so sooty plugs means, WHAT is dead?

Have you tried bypassing your FMU? Put back in the CRX 240's. What do your plugs look like? Without any form of fuel management you cant run prelude (345cc's) or DSM's (450cc's) with out some serious bogging. If the fmu is the cause I guess you'll have to get some real fuel management.

you could've fouled the plugs also. are they copper? if so they can foul really easily.

Very possible the pump. See if the sock is clogged up. If the sock is clogged it will cause the car to bog badly from starvation and fuel pressure drop.

I just heard a CLANK when i started it....

so i adjusted the idle screw so it would run and i could walk to the motor and listen....

and i heard it 3 times when i reved it at the throttle body....

compression is good, but could this be a bad rod bearing?

changed out the plugs again, too.

I think you have something akin to this guy's problem: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1470924

Check your fuel pressure, but a couple spare sets of plugs laying around is super handy.

changed plugs, to brand new identical plugs..... same thing.

i changed plugs...... and it started right up.... (original plugs with 15k miles on it)

old plugs had 100 miles on them... (and were a step colder than the plugs i ran when i was NA)

so i think its running RICH at idle, and LEAN under WOT.

causing the car to foul the plugs.

NOW i really need a tune..... this FMU bullshit and SAFC hack is garbage.

CAN ANYONE TUNE A PM6 with crome or turboedit, in SO CAL ?????

ASAP!?

the thing that is weird... why could this happen on only 100 miles?

i changed the plugs, (to another 4 from the same box) and it still ran like ***. NO CHANGE.

but when i went back to the hotter plugs that i ran when i was NA, it fired right up, and idled smooth.

i ordered the NGK 7s that are recommended by HONDA in the parts catalog. (the coldest plugs available for a CRX...OEM)

i put the 6s back in... and it ran great.
